By working with Dr. Brandon, I was able to eliminate pain, continue to work out, and achieve goals that I thought were overly ambitious. I'd say my investment definitely paid off and I'm still reaping the benefits.
The long version of my story:
I started CrossFit about a year and a half ago at age 39 and have a family history of back problems. I started experiencing what I now know was nerve pain in my legs particularly while driving. What was more concerning though, was a shooting pain that went down my legs when I set the barbell down after deadlifts - that's when I went to one of Dr. Brandon's free screenings. I ended up scheduling a real appointment, during which Dr. Brandon quickly figured out what was wrong and set very concrete goals for our work together: hit my 1RM goal for deadlift and be able to do CrossFit without pain. He helped my improve my deadlift form, strengthen muscles that were weak, and we also worked on mobility. Sure enough, after 1-2 months, I hit my deadlift goal of 225lbs (2 plates) without that shooting nerve pain. I even hit 280lbs.
During my continued work with Dr. Brandon, I had a setback. I tweaked my back on a rower (hip hinge motion, like deadlifts), resulting in significant sciatic nerve pain. It was bad. At its worst, I even needed help putting my shoes. I'm glad I was seeing Dr. Brandon at that time, as he reassured me that I hadn't don't any real damage (a concern for me due to family history) and gave me some exercises to do to treat that pain. Before too long, that pain resolved.
I finished up my work with Dr. Brandon a couple months ago. Despite taking 3 weeks off from a strength cycle at my gym due to the birth of my son, I was able to hit my next deadlift goal of 315lbs (3 plates!) earlier this week.
When another (unnamed) physical therapy practice didn't deliver for my wife, I recommended she see Dr. Brandon and she had great results from her work with him. Everyone at my gym who has worked with Dr. Brandon has had only good things to say.
