Freeborn
When the institutional healthcare system completely failed me, recently having to go on FMLA because of continuing and persistent back issues, John @ Freeborn Fitness showed up and did their job for them.
My first move was chiropractic. While the sessions provided some measure of immediate relief, my issues continued, albeit with very minor improvement. Next, my doctor had X-Rays taken; and while there were minor arthritis and disc issues, we both agreed there was nothing in the X-Rays to explain my issues. All she could do was complete the FMLA paperwork, prescribe some painkillers and muscle relaxers, and put in the physical therapy referral … to the one large PT company that gets all their referral business.
I did a total of 4 PT sessions. With each session, I woke up the next day feeling worse than before going in for that session. The morning after my last session, I was no longer able to put on my own socks and shoes. My wife had to do that for me for a full week. Christmas week, actually. The PT company left me worse than the day I decided I needed to go out on FMLA. And at this point, I was a full month into what I had hoped would be a month off of work at most. I felt obligated to “stick to the system”, because “the system” very much requires you to follow its program when you are receiving FMLA money. The system failed. Miserably.
Next, I had to follow my gut. First, I took a chance on a very local (around the corner, a 15 minute walk) massage therapy salon that had opened recently. Turned out to be a serendipitous roll of the dice. A seasoned massage therapist, knowledgeable in age old Chinese techniques like scraping, was able to directly address and provide much needed relief for my symptoms.
But it was my next move, one Zoom session with John @ Freeborn Fitness (soon followed by a second session), that put me on the forward path toward actual foundational healing. John asked questions that neither my doctor nor the referred physical therapists nor even the chiropractor asked, and they were the important questions. John saw, via Zoom, what neither my doctor nor the physical therapists, nor even again the chiropractor, were able to see live and in person, with me standing right in front of them.
John was able to pinpoint the core issues at the very root of my longstanding back problems, provide me with detailed instruction on the movements and exercises that will allow my body to self-correct, and put this all in intuitive language will provide me with the insight necessary to not just manage my back problems, but retool my musculoskeletal structural integrity to come out the other end stronger than before. And the follow up … with video copies of fully recorded sessions, the detailed notes and work plans … is something I’ve simply not encountered anywhere in “the system”. John @ Freeborn Fitness simply does it better.
