European Taste

We were driving through Richmond, and googled restaurants that are rated 4.5 or higher. One of those that came up was European Taste, and since we love European food, we decided that would be our dinner destination. We also love small business restaurants that are owner-operated. Wow--are we glad that we made that decision! The small restaurant is located in a small strip mall less than 10 minutes off of Highway 64. It is definitely worth that extra time for a wonderful meal. The restaurant is owned and operated by a husband and wife team, Adrian and Ligia Sava, who are from Romania. Of course, they serve Romanian food, but they also serve Hungarian, French, Italian and German dishes. We were greeted by Adrian when we entered the restaurant and quickly brought water and took our drink order. They serve both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, including wine by both the glass and the bottle, various imported beers, and various liquors from Europe. We only wished that we had know that the Tuica (plum brandy) was a Romanian specialty as we definitely would have tried it. As it was, my husband had a Czech beer, which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had a glass of pinot noir.We chose two different appetizers to start our meal: langosh, which is a fried bread stuffed with feta cheese, and a puff pastry stuffed with beef & pork--both were amazing! We decided to split one of the specials of the day for our entree: beef stroganoff. Ligia was nice enough to split the strogranoff in the kitchen before Adrian served it to us. The stroganoff had just the right amount of seasoning and the beef was tender. We would highly recommend it!If you scan their QR code (on each table), you get a free dessert on your first visit. We decided to take the puff pastry with cheese to go and we enjoyed it for dessert the next evening. Even a day later, it was SO good! The cheese was light and the pastry was still flaky! However, Ligia also brought us another dessert to eat at the restaurant, which was a key-lime pie. I'm not usually a key-lime pie person, but this was amazing--it was not too tart, and the crust was light and flaky and it was adorned with lime & lemon zest. We devoured it!The menu is varied so everyone should be able to find something that they like, the food was delicious and the prices were very reasonable. If you are looking for a European restaurant, look no further than European Taste in Richmond. You can tell that Ligia loves to cook! You will not be disappointed!
