Update 10/2: on one of the hottest days of the year, 81’ at 10:00am, at a crowded dance social and the dance flop feels cool because of the changes they have made to their AC. Changing my review to a 5 star.I've danced at a lot of venues, and SOHO West LA has the potential to be one of the best. The dance floor is large, the ambiance is great, and it's a space that could host incredible socials.Unfortunately, the biggest issue is the heat.For many socials, the studio becomes uncomfortably hot. Salsa nights have brought in additional fans, which helps, but other social organizers aren't allowed to use them. It feels like the responsibility has been pushed onto event organizers when this is really something the venue should address.What's frustrating is that the solution doesn't seem complicated. The large roll-up door in the back doesn't create meaningful airflow on its own. Installing a high-volume exhaust fan near the ceiling to pull the hot air out, combined with drawing fresh air in through the rear or front entrance, would make a dramatic difference. Pair that with the existing A/C and a few circulating fans around the room, and this could become a fantastic venue to dance in.Until then, be prepared. If you enjoy dancing in a very warm room and don't mind being drenched in sweat, you'll be fine. Otherwise, bring extra shirts because you'll probably need them.I really hope management invests in improving the ventilation because this studio has everything else going for it.

This dance studio is probably the best place to learn to dance in Los Angeles. The air conditioning works even when the place is crowded for social dancing. It’s only a matter of time before this place becomes thee place to party - without alcohol. I like how Blen Blen enlists a taco truck to be there at their dance events.

David was one of the absolute highlights of our wedding preparation. My husband and I took private salsa lessons with him to choreograph our first dance for our May wedding at Rancho Las Lomas, and we truly could not have asked for a better instructor.We started as beginners, but David immediately made us feel comfortable. He was incredibly encouraging, patient, positive, and genuinely invested in helping us. Rather than teaching a generic routine, he created a completely custom choreography for the song we chose and thoughtfully tailored every step to match our skill level. As we improved, he adapted the routine to challenge us while always making sure we felt confident and capable.One thing we especially appreciated was how much he cared about our progress. He regularly recorded videos of our lessons so we could watch ourselves improve, which was not only motivating but incredibly helpful for practicing between sessions. Seeing how far we had come over time was such a rewarding experience.We also attended David's group classes, and he brought the same incredible energy to every lesson. He's an outstanding teacher who creates a welcoming, supportive atmosphere where everyone feels comfortable learning, regardless of experience. One of the most thoughtful things he did was arrange for us to perform our routine during the Thursday night open dance, giving us the chance to practice dancing in front of a crowd before our wedding. That experience did wonders for our confidence and made performing our first dance on our wedding day feel so much more natural.David doesn't just teach dance--he builds confidence, celebrates your progress, and makes the entire experience genuinely fun. Thanks to him, our first dance became one of our favorite memories from our wedding day, and the journey of learning it was just as special. If you're looking for an instructor who is talented, creative, patient, and truly cares about his students, I cannot recommend David highly enough. Whether you're preparing for a wedding, learning salsa for the first time, or simply looking for an amazing instructor, you'll be in the very best hands.

It’s rare to find such a critical mass of talented advanced dancers, excited new and intermediate students, and committed teachers, as what you can get at SoHo Dance (Westwood). It helps that the location is about as central in LA as you can get.If you get the chance to take a lesson at SoHo (with any teacher) - do it! You’ll learn a lot and be glad you did.
