Uplift Strength & Spirit

This is the only review I've ever written for anything, so she'll be long, but know I mean it.I’m 5'4", just turned 50, and I’m a former athlete with multiple injuries—one of them a significant spinal injury. I knew I needed someone truly qualified to design a training plan that respected my history without limiting me/while still challenging me appropriately. I searched all of D.C. I found UPLIFT in July 2025.When we first spoke, Nancy was able to clearly articulate her approach in a way that made me willing to take a chance. I was hesitant about small-group / semi-personal training, but it turns out I actually prefer it. We typically have 2–5 people training at the same time, each with our own station (full rack and equipment). I get plenty of individual attention, but I also get space to really absorb what I’ve learned and apply it myself. That autonomy has helped me strengthen my foundation in a way I haven’t experienced elsewhere. What I’ve noticed improving:- Increased muscle mass (my main goal)- Fat loss (a very welcome bonus)- Improved balance (desperately needed)What feels different at UPLIFT:1) The balance is just right. You get expertise and hands-on help, paired with trust and independence. The programming never stagnates. Progression timing is spot-on, and the trainers regularly check in to see if you want to add or emphasize things like pull-ups, mobility, or grip strength. The program design is incredibly dialed in (the math!). It hits the sweet spot between effort and results without unnecessary suffering or frustration.2) The floors. So clean. Consistently clean. I’m not kidding. I occasionally have exercises that require my hands on the floor, and I never feel gross afterward. I don’t know who’s coming in before 6 a.m. to scrub them, but thank you (thank you, thank you). This might sound superficial, but it’s a perfect example of the quality you get and the intention that Nancy and the entire staff put behind every single part of UPLIFT.I also have to call out the trainers, because they’re all exceptional—and all very different—in the best possible way. Nancy, obviously, sets the tone: knowledgeable, thoughtful, and intentional in how she programs and coaches. Kseniya is wonderfully direct, brings expert-level competence and a grounded, no-nonsense energy that I really appreciate—I’ve spent a lot of time training with her and trust her completely. Damien. this guy makes it impossible to not smile during a hard workout; he supports you in ways you don’t even realize in the moment, and has a subtle, clear way of explaining things that really lands. TJ is newer, but already a standout—so supportive and especially encouraging on days when you show up a little depleted. I genuinely learn something every time I train with him. And I just had my first training with Maya today (welcome!), but I can already tell I’m going to enjoy our sessions. What an embarrassment of riches in the coaching department at UPLIFT.There are also meaningful extras included—credits you can use for things like assisted stretching (so good. shout out to Damien!) and Health Coaching sessions. Molly Dunn deserves her own review. While she supports other folks with nutrition, she has helped me build habits that support my overall fitness and wellness—sleep, stress, and sustainability. She’s an absolute joy.UPLIFT is for you if:You'd like more than a cookie-cutter gym experience. If you want truly personalized, customized training that actually works, in a supportive environment, this is it.And the best part, for me: they do all the thinking. I trust them to create the program, keep it current, and adapt it as I progress. My role is to simply show up. I’ve never left UPLIFT feeling anything but positive...tired maybe (in the best way), but always energized and smiling.Highly recommend.
