This typical approach can often result in inflated costs, with multiple parties involved, and as a customer, we would end up paying far more than necessary. After reading positive reviews about Ed and his company, we decided to reach out to him directly. He responded promptly and arrived the following day. We provided a detailed list of requirements, including specific brands of house wrap and window trim, and Ed was able to accommodate every request without hesitation. I hired Remodeling Network LLC to handle a roofing job for me. Ed came out to speak to me and told me upfront that his company was NOT the cheapest but that he could guarantee a first-class result. Before hiring Remodeling Network, I obtained several estimates, mostly from lowballers or fly-by-nighters. Ed told me right away what the project would cost and further encouraged me to shop around. I tossed out the lowballers and any company that consisted of two guys, a pickup truck and a ladder. Ed was patient throughout the bidding process. I happened upon one "reputable" local company that wanted almost double what Remodeling Network wanted to do the job. I told the owner the next day that Remodeling LLC would do the work at about half the cost. Half an hour later, the guy calls me back to say that, well, due to tax breaks and warranty changes, he would do the project at Ed's price. I told him to pound sand and erased his number from my phone and called Ed. The next day we had a signed contract stipulating what was to be done, when where and how down to the last detail. Ed did warn me that weather could possibly cause delays, which I expected but we only lost one or two days to rain. As the project included a complete tearoff of two old layers of shingles, I expected a bit of time would pass before everything could be done. Not so. There was a dumpster on site the following day and the day after that, his crew got going. These guys do NOT let moss grow under their feet. They are a hard working group and a pleasure to work with. They did find a relatively minor structural issue, Ed told me about it and we immediately reached a fair price to do the extra work. Ed, his people and Remodeling Network hit every time and completion date dead on the money. Yes, you CAN find a cheaper company to do your work. But it's always cheapest to do it right the first time. If you don't, when are you going to have the time and money to do it over? Where to begin with this company. Our project was accepted by Ed, which led us to believe he had READ and UNDERSTOOD the blueprints. It became quickly evident he did not, as he and his crew were quickly changing the blueprints on us (told us they could not install a curbless shower after countless other contractors and plumbers said it would be no big deal). Fast forward to our job starting, and it immediately was chaos. Subcontractors who didn't know what they were doing, untrustworthy people, and just generally lazy individuals. A sub who Ed hired was sent here to fix the framing (the same framing his company built, unevenly), and while here he smashed one of our outdoor tables with a sledgehammer. I asked Ed that night if this person had been removed from working with remodeling network to which he said "we still subcontract to that company" which is a glimpse into the exact type of person he is. Continuing on, once Ed sent his subcontractors here, he never showed up, until he was confronted with this by me, and then he showed an interest for maybe 2 days before once again becoming a ghost in the project. He wouldn't answer phone calls when problems arose, however, was quick to call when a payment was due. In short, I could go on for pages and pages about this company, and Ed, but the fact is, he is as untrustworthy as those hires, and anyone considering hiring them should do their research first.
