I’m an active senior who has participated in sports and outdoor activities my entire life. I was a power lifter for over 20 years. My favorite outdoor activity is fly fishing.Flyfishing is a diverse sport that can be practiced in many ways and places. It can be active and strenuous if you’re in an “I can whip the world” mood - wading deep, fast current, making long casts, constantly balancing on the edge of being swept away. Or it can be as serene and contemplative as a still alpine lake. Hikes to good water or solitude can be long and difficult. Wading and stream crossings can tax your whole body and can be both exciting and somewhat dangerous. Being fit is absolutely essential to having a good time as well as being safe.As I have passed 70, my body is inevitably showing and registering signs of aging. The truth is, it has been for some time. Due to arthritis, I had lost some mobility and flexibility. I was referred to The Path by my son who had used them for physical therapy. He had a great experience with them. With The Path, I was looking for some help to regain both flexibility and strength so I could continue to fish aggressively into my next decade of life.Brooks has been fantastic. After a discussion about my goals and the obstacles I expected to face in the field, he designed a custom rehabilitation program for me. It concentrates on the kinds of movements I might need - rock hopping, boulder maneuvering, wading in deep, fast current, and footwork with non-trivial weight on my back. Sometimes that movement is straight ahead, sometimes it is lateral or oblique. Moreover, Brooks has been very adroit in customizing exercises to meet both my needs and my limitations. In a few months, which flew by, I was wading fast current again without a wading staff for the first time in 15 years. Granted, I wasn’t picking my way through a nasty, boulder garden. But being able to again wade such water was thrilling. My confidence soared. I looked forward again to facing tough water and the hike to get there.Seeing my results, my wife has begun working with Paulina. She’s as delighted as I am. I have also recommended The Path to my best friends without reservation. They are also impressed with the results. I have worked with other physical therapy and rehabilitation providers before. I’ve never worked with someone better. In my experience, The Path offers the best physical therapy program in Western Washington.
