If you want the worst hair braiding experience in the DMV, most likely all of the US, head to Yams Hair Braiding in Silver Spring. Went in yesterday and spent the entire day and $300 to get home and look at the back of my head and see these terrible parts! I called and the owner had an attitude but told me to come back today. They took the back of my hair out with the nastiest attitude ever and cut my hair in the process. STAY AWAY from Yams!!

This is one of my favorite hair braiding places. Patricia is amazing. I love how my braids look afterwards. I’ve been coming to her for some years now, and she never disappoints. My sister recommended me to her and I’m so happy she did. Her staff is really nice very professional and very helpful.

Do not book here. Took too long. Parts were not aligned, actual braids are super thin not matching the size of the parts. Had human add on, and braider did not distribute human hair evenly. Looked nothing like I request. Completely waited 10hrs (yes 10hrs) and $325

I had been coming to Yams since my college days and as time passed I watched their business practice go down the drain. From lacking cleanliness - same comb and hair dryer passed down from head to head. To the stylist assuming you don’t not speak their language so they are speaking about clients right over their heads as they are actively getting done. Deposit or not - you are looking at a 30-1hr wait to get into a chair and that’s on the weekdays so weekends are a disaster and as opposed to be appt. only they would rather do 10 heads subpar then take the time to focus and listen to clients they actually have chairs for. I spent 3 hours of my appt. in absolute tears because no request of mine was being respected and I could understand the awful things that were being said about my tears so out of shear shock and embarrassment I allowed my braiders to finish. There’s just too many braiding salons to End up at Yams not listened to.

If you have long hair don't go there they treat you different The owner doesn't really care about what customers want they give you whatever they feel like doing, they didn't know I speak French they were speaking about me in French I feel like the owner didn't like me from the start she was talking about my hair with a bad attitude The stylist who was doing my hair she keep telling the owner she can't do the style I showed them because she haven't done it before the owner forced her to do it anyway, while she was doing my hair she called the owner to check if she was ok, the owner didn't care to check and the owner said in french she doesn't care whatever they do I have to take it and she said I have no choice like my opinion doesn't matter, (Speaking french) the pictures I show them was knotless she didn't do knotless the hair is so thigh my scalp is red and I have a blisters in the middle of my head, I'm scared when I take the hair off I won't be bold in that spot and they didn't do the color I want Be aware if you don't speak French they might talk about you.

They do decent work but they will definitely put other people in front of you who have shorter hair! Oh and no masks, or no cleaning combs etc. Good Luck!!

DO NOT GO HERE!! My niece just left this place. Prior to her appointment, she sent pics of her hair and the style she wanted. She was quoted a price but when the stylist was almost finished her hair she increased the price. Very tacky and unprofessional.
