Terrible experience; the poorest customer service I had ever experienced. I was at Nyanya's place for the first time yesterday, March 12, 2026. Nyanya was disrespectful toward my time and very deceptive, then she became unacceptably rude when I pointed her actions out. I left without getting my hair done. The phone call before my visit: I called Nyanya on March 5th to schedule an appointment for knotless braids for March 12th. She gave me a 9AM appointment while on the phone and confirmed the appointment by text. We also discussed another hair style which I already have hair for and would like to do in the future but I wasn't sure how much hair I would need for it.A day before my appointment (3/11/26): I called Nyanya to be very sure that my appointment was still intact because I would be traveling in a few days. Initially she claimed she didn't have a record of my appointment, that she had another customer's name for that time. I asked her to check the confirmation text she had sent to me a week earlier but she claimed that she couldn't find it so I texted her number again just to make our messaging thread pop up and she still claimed she didn't see it. (Now I know she was lying about not seeing those text messages). At that point, I was already feeling disappointed and thinking of finding an alternative but she kept reassuring me that she was going to fix it and call me back. She called me back and told me that I could come at the scheduled time. I requested for Nyanya to be the one to braid my hair because the reviews I read were about her and she assured me she was going to be the one to braid my hair.Arriving on my day of appointment (3/12/26) : I was the only customer when I arrived. As I sat in her chair, Nyanya told me that she wasn't going to be the one to braid my hair because she had to braid another customer's hair. She said person (her sister) who would be braiding my hair was still on her way. I reminded her that we talked about this and she had assured me that she was going to be braiding my hair. She said she didn't mean it when she told me that. I was shocked at that height of deception.High level of aggression: I was trying to make Nyanya see how unacceptable it was to deceive me like that. She started getting aggressive that she has to be the one to do the other customer's hair and there's nothing I could do about it. How do I expect her to be the one to braid hair for everyone that comes to her shop? She said I should reschedule if I am not satisfied with having my hair done by the other person. I told her, instead of deceiving me, she should have made that clear when we spoke the day before and let me make my decision then.At this point I was desperate about getting my hair done, so I agreed to have “her sister” braid my hair. The problem was, this sister, according to Nyanya, was still on her way and had no estimated arrival time. I was already sitting in Nyanya's chair for 15 minutes. The other customer that Nyanya referred to (who arrived after me) is beginning to get her hair done by Nyanya but Nyanya expected me to wait endlessly. When Nyanya saw that I was about to leave, she called the “sister” and told me her arrival time was another 15 minutes (which I know wasn't true).I insisted on leaving, then she became more aggressive. She refused to see that she was wrong but instead was cutting me off and guilt tripping me.She mentioned that as a fellow African, I should be more understanding and be accepting of the situation. Such an embarrassing comment! Her comment made the reason for her behavior clearer.Being an African doesn't mean delivering or accepting subpar services.Yes, I am an African. I am a professional and I discharge my duties with utmost respect and professionalism regardless of whom I am dealing with.Though my experience with Nyanya wasted several hours of my day, I was able to get my hair done somewhere else after a few calls.
