All the staff members were absolutely amazing to do business with during the hard days that followed up to my loved one's burial. He will tell you, immediately and without hesitation, the exact financial costs, and also the costs to our planet, of every choice available. He was deeply kind to me as I handled details when my friend Nellie wound up suddenly on hospice. He made sure I got all the necessary paperwork signed before she was too close to death to sign them. I had no idea those forms would be needed! He’s empathetic without a hint of manipulation anywhere. Patient and generous, direct, knowledgeable. He walked me through all the details of terramation (human composting) that Nellie had requested, and explained exactly why he works with the terramation facility he’s chosen - once again: no taking advantage of survivors, transparency and compassion. Brian offered his facility for our friend’s Laying In, and gave us all the latitude, support and guidance we needed to create a gathering that fitted us perfectly. In the middle of that, Nellie’s mother suddenly realized she wished she had a sign in book for attendees and asked me if I could find a piece of paper for it. Brian overheard and was there in moments with a simple book & pen for her. He has stayed in touch, making his weekly bereavement support available to any of us at no charge, on a drop in basis as needed, with no strings attached. Brian has been at the forefront of green burial in our community for decades. I knew I could turn to him again. He handled my father’s death in 2012, and green burials for several friends in the years since. We’re so lucky to have him here.

When we updated our wills in 2021, often included in that document is a directive about the 'disposal of remains'. One of our goals was a method of 'disposal' that would somehow allow us to return to our mature garden which we have cultivated, loved and lived on for over fifty years (now). Our attorney told us about 'terramation', the process of composting the human body in a beautiful, natural way, with no chemicals or fire, just temperature control, natural materials placed with the body, and the body's own microbes leading this natural, beautiful process. The resulting compost can be distributed where and how you wish. If you don't have a garden as we do, Wildflower can provide choices for placement. In 2021, this new method had just been approved by the state legislature, and there was only one facility in Washington that could do this, in Auburn, Washington. Then last summer, I saw on social media that Wildflower Funeral Concepts opened in Ferndale, and that terramation was one of several types of 'disposal of remains' which they offered. I set up an appointment with Brian Flowers, the owner and funeral director of Wildflower Funeral Concepts. He was very welcoming and clearly explained the process, timeline, expenses, etc. I had many questions and he satisfied me completely with his answers.I had no way, of course, of knowing that approximately five months later, I would be telling PeaceHealth St. Joseph Hospital that Wildflower Funeral Concepts was the funeral home to contact when my husband passed away unexpectedly during the night. Though I was in shock at the news, I was confident knowing that Brian would take care of everything and provide me guidance if needed.He provided me with superb service and comfort, taking care of all the details, too numerous to list here. He told me matters to attend to which I would not have known on my own, and the few times I needed to consult over the last few months, he has always been very responsive and thorough.I highly recommend the terramation process, a most natural and beautiful way to return to the earth, and I recommend without hesitation, Wildflower Funeral Concepts and Brian Flowers. His business has all the traditional end of life services available as well as other newer methods.
