I'm a person in my (let's be generous) late 40s who recently moved to Toronto and has dabbled in picking up the guitar throughout my life. I wanted to change that and take the opportunity to meet some other music loving people in my new hometown. After doing some online research, I found Level Up. I had seen their signs as I walked the neighborhood, so I knew they were close by. I met with the owner, Jack, who walked me through how the lessons worked (pricing, schedule, make-up classes, etc). I signed up and couldn't be happier with my choice. The team at Level Up does a great job of creating not only a lesson plan that is shaped by your goals and interests (I've brought a lot of my Minnesota musical upbringing with me), but they also do a great job of creating a sense of community. There are opportunities at open mics and even showcase concerts for students to perform in front of their friends, family and other students in a supportive environment. My teacher, Shing, has been excellent. He shapes my lessons around the songs I want to learn, while also helping me understand the fundamentals of guitar playing. I really look forward to our sessions and getting a chance to be around both the instructors and my fellow students. If you are looking for a school where you can learn at your own pace, have teachers who know their stuff and want to see you grow, and where you can end your lesson feeling like you can be even better by the next one, don't hesitate to give Level Up a try.
