We purchased a shed a year ago at the Princeton, NC location and I want to share the experience. We visited and, while we did not see what we wanted on the lot (and there are a diverse number of designs in the lot), we took a look at build quality and were pleased with what we saw. We sat down with Mackenzie (a really nice person) to design a building and this is where our experience really begins. She helped design exactly what we needed, answered all of our questions, made positive suggestions, and was completely honest. What she did not do was to try to sell us things we did not want or need. Her quote was very competitive. She kept us informed as to building progress and delivery date. She even sent me a Christmas note. I met the owner while waiting for my shed to arrive and he also is very customer oriented. The building was delivered on the day it was promised. The driver placed it exactly where I wanted it, leveled it, made sure the window and door operated properly (he adjusted the door), and made sure I was happy before he left. Another great person to work with. Here are my shed observations a year later: very well built, all quality straight wood, square and level, no sags or squeeks. Shelving and mounting brackets were easy to install as was vinyl plank flooring and a solar/battery fan. There is no rust on any of the hinges, brackets, or nail heads. Support materials are quality. It looks good. My neighbor purchased a larger shed with electrical and insulation from Hinton before I did and he is very happy with it. Summary: quality product, quality people, fair price (lower than others I looked at prior to my purchase), easy to customize, and they still consider you a customer after purchase and delivery. I have sent two others to Hinton and they are happy with their experiences. Alot of companies sell sheds and I cannot speak on how they do business. I will say that the drive to Hinton and working with Mackenzie are worth your time and they will do their best to provide exactly what you need and deliver it in a reasonable amount of time. Less

The delivery, installation, and materials were handled by NC Carports and Garages out of Pilot Moutain, NC which was a terrible experience! They did a shotty installation, drank beer on the job, then left all their trash and leftover materials behind forcing us to have to discard. The building failed the final county inspection because the workers failed to install critical support brackets! Then, due to rain the day after installation, water leaked under the walls and the company told us that WE had to seal between the concrete floor and walls! We called Hinton and they told us the concrete flooring must be too big. BUT, WE used one of their recommended concrete installers who used the exact measurements provided by Hinton in the contract. After over 2 months of phone calls and messages to the installers, they finally came out and replaced some siding and insulation and still, TRIED to leave garbage that we had to INSIST they take with them!! Hinton shows no interest in witnessing what they sell once it is installed on the buyers land but has no problem advertising the buildings they sell on their lot and collecting their fees up front. As long as Hinton continues to operate in this manner, we will not recommend Hinton to anyone when we are asked who we purchased this building from! (We have already been asked!) Less

They are just a middle man making money and not very good customer service or communication with their contractors. I will not recommend them to anyone. After reading a number of horror stories about several steel building dealers and suppliers that included poor workmanship, slipping schedules and out of control costs, I was more than a little apprehensive. Then, I came across Hinton Buildings. Their website included an easy to use design tool that made visualizing my proposed building very easy. After designing the building, I submitted it for a quote. I had a response the following morning, and I was impressed with the degree of professionalism that I encountered. I spoke with Mackenzie in the sales department, and she was a real pleasure to work with. She was responsive to all of my questions and concerns, and went way above and beyond the call to help me work through some design concerns. Dealing with Hinton Buildings in general and Mackenzie specifically made the whole process easy. My steel building was manufactured by NC Carports and Garages, and they were very nearly as good to deal with as was Hinton Buildings. My building was put up on my concrete slab in the timeframe that was promised to me. The only hiccup in the whole process was a delay in getting the rollup doors, which was a supply chain issue that we've all come to be familiar with. I would not hesitate to recommend Hinton Buildings to anyone who is in the market for a steel building. I know I'll be reaching out to them again if I find a need for another building on my farm. That is EXACTLY what happened when my husband and I drove into the driveway. Mark has outstanding customer service skills. He was able to gently guide us through the process of buying a great little barn, complete with a front porch (they call it the Playhouse). It was affordable and the process was easy from purchase to delivery (David, the delivery man was phenomenal too). We actually just got back from purchasing a carport also. Can’t say enough good about Mark and Hinton Wooden & Metal Buildings. Don’t look anywhere else:-)More to say:-). After such great service and professionalism with our barn, we decided to get a metal carport too. The installers showed up on time and did a fantastic job of placing the carport on our prepared pad. Hinton Metal Buildings let’s you know if you have to call them back about anything after the sell, then it’s “no longer their responsibility”. That’s when NC Carports & Garages out of Mt Airy starts. We did not know that the building erectors were 3rd party contractors. Our building turned out OK but it was rather painstaking. Long waits, missing & delayed materials, jagged uneven metal cuts that we insisted be taken down & redone, several trips back & forth before they could finish the job. Be sure you are willing to be on site at all times to evaluate the work being done. Speak up if you see issues. After all of this, we are finally satisfied with our building. However, we have friends who are in the process of getting their building erected right now. They have had issue after issue with missing parts, shotty work, no-shows, panels that don’t match, soaking wet insulation installed that my friends insisted be removed. These contractors have been back & forth about 5 times & they still haven’t finished. It’s been 3 weeks that they’ve been working on that building. Pretty much the whole building had to be taken apart & redone. And it’s not even a big building. After all of this, I would not recommend Hinton Buildings since they do business with NC Carports. My wife and I were gonna get a carport and my dad suggested these people. Said they were super nice and best price around. Well we get there I tell them my dad sent me up there and that we had cash. The owner told us he could throw in some painted screws (a $150 if I remember correctly value). We walked around and looked at a couple. Then he started going over prices (they seemed high from what I was seeing online). I asked about the high prices and he said I must've been looking at single car carports not doubles.... I thought maybe, so I went with it. He got a phone call and had to go pick up his wife and bring her to work. Instead of waiting for us to be done with our business he said "you don't mind waiting do you? It won't be long" well we thought that was rude but ok I guess so. He was correct tho and it wasn't long maybe 10 minutes. When he gets back we decide on a size and color. When he prints out the contract it's almost $2700 for a carport with no sides!!!! I looked and noticed he was charging us for the color screws that he said he would throw in for free. So I said "if you aint gonna give us the color screws for free like you said you can just take them off" kinda thinking he forgot and would give them to is as stated but nope! He just takes them off the bill. We also went with a foot shorter to save money which bought the total to $2364.51😳. Still hesitant and thinking about shopping around first(I know I know always shop around) the owner said "you better get it today the price of metal I'd going up 20% on Monday so they'll all be 20% more tomorrow. So se decided we better buy then. Our deposit was $370something I said ok she'll go get the cash from the atm. Then he let us know we could just pay him with debit card... I was like ok sure, "it's a 3% charge" what? Yea it'll be $11 more dollars to run your debit card. Well that was crazy since the atm was 1.5 miles away. Went got cash and wouldn't you know they didn't have a cash register or anything and didn't have change. So he changed the amount on a new contract and printed... but this one with us oweing an lesser amount to the builders he didn't sign. So I asked him to sign this one and he acted like he couldn't believe I had asked him. Anywho we left that day knowing it could be 12-14wks for it to be delivered. They use NC carport and garages to build them, who apparently uses another company to build them who apparently uses ANOTHER company to deliver. Well to no fault of Hinton buildings we decided that NC carport and garages didn't know what they were doing and decided not to get the carport. (Feel free to look up NC carport and garages on Google and read my review of why we decided not to go that route) We decided we would call Hintons for our deposit back but my dad said "let me call them for you" so sure ok why not. They tell him that alot of people are having trouble with getting their sheds and carports but they were only the dealer. Then at the end she (owners wife) said "tell them they better call them back and tell them that they do want that carport cause price of metal is going up 20% on Monday. 🤔🤔🤔 well doesn't that sound familiar. It had only been a month since we were up there (yea that's how bad NC carports and garages are with customer service) so I guess the price of metal goes up 20% every month🙄 maybe that's their "line" that they use. My neighbor got a carport put up with sides last week for $1700 from another place in Smithfield (I will be checking them out this week) he said Hinton was gonna charge him $2700 for the same one. His with sides was $664.51 cheaper than mine with no sides! I feel like you're just a number there and you better buy cause the price will be 20% more next Monday🙄 Less

They took pride in what they were doing and treated every stage of the erection process just like it was their own building they were putting together. When they arrived yesterday afternoon to start and again this morning, as soon as they got here they were out of the truck, got out their tools and tool belts and went straight to work. They only stopped today to eat lunch for about 20 minutes. No breaks, no standing around talking- just plain hard work and they seemed to enjoy every minute of it.
