When your child’s life and academic success is at stake but your school refuses to their part, or outright stands in your way, you need to get someone that’s done it before. Linda Silvers helped us navigate a really tough and emotional situation with our school. Our school completely refused to do anything for our 5 year old incoming kindergartner with type 1 diabetes. No access to the teacher to train on diabetes management/ risks , no ability to communicate with staff, no nurse, no to literally everything. The school administrators, even had the audacity to tell us we could not expect any accommodations and that we should consider another school. Mind you, they are publicly funded and this is a gross violation of the deferral and state ADA. But this is way more common than one would expect, and we were lost. Having previously worked as a school administrator herself and now a 504 plan advocate, Linda has been on both sides and knows all the tricks schools will throw at you to wash their hands of their legal and ethical responsibilities, and frustrate to the point where you just leave. I have known Linda Silver professionally and personally for over 35 years! We worked closely, together, to ensure the success of both elementary and middle school students.
