I hired Linda, the child advocate, because even though the ESE specialist at my son’s school is wonderful, the teachers were not following his 504 plan, no matter how many times the ESE specialist reminded them. The administration also failed to enforce the 504 or hold staff accountable, and at one point, my son’s FERPA rights were violated. He was treated unfairly, with teachers picking and choosing which messages to respond to and grading inconsistently with his accommodations.If it weren’t for Linda’s professionalism, knowledge, and persistence, none of these issues would have been addressed. She fought for my son when no one else would. I’m so grateful for her, she truly knows what she’s doing and genuinely cares about helping families. I highly recommend her to any parent whose child’s rights are being overlooked.

Rarely in the area of Section 504 and Exceptional Children law does one meet a person like Linda Silver. We connected over 10 years ago while both of us were revamping Section 504 programs for our school districts with Linda in Florida and me in North Carolina. Through our collaboration, I soon discovered that Linda cared for her students and what was needed to help them in a school environment. Her background in school counseling, education law, and her ability to communicate to both parents, administrators, and staff allowed her to become successful in establishing a program that worked for students. As a private practitioner, Linda continues to uphold the rights of students who have special needs. Using her experience and knowledge, Linda has spoken at several national conferences for administrators and school staff. When your child’s life and academic success is at stake but your school refuses to their part, or outright stands in your way, you need to get someone that’s done it before. Linda Silvers helped us navigate a really tough and emotional situation with our school. Our school completely refused to do anything for our 5 year old incoming kindergartner with type 1 diabetes. No access to the teacher to train on diabetes management/ risks , no ability to communicate with staff, no nurse, no to literally everything. The school administrators, even had the audacity to tell us we could not expect any accommodations and that we should consider another school. Mind you, they are publicly funded and this is a gross violation of the deferral and state ADA. But this is way more common than one would expect, and we were lost. Having previously worked as a school administrator herself and now a 504 plan advocate, Linda has been on both sides and knows all the tricks schools will throw at you to wash their hands of their legal and ethical responsibilities, and frustrate to the point where you just leave. Linda attends allmeetings in person, comes prepared, and fights for you harder than you’ll fight for yourself. Not sure where we’d be without her - probably homeschooling.
