I almost hesitate to post a negative review with the mass of positive reviews we've read and heard from friends about this company. It seems our experience is probably an outlier, but one I would have wanted to know before contacting them. First, we used the online contact form to make an appointment for our air conditioning, which hasn't been working well. They called promptly and made an appointment. However, I got both an email and a text message the next day saying that our appointment had been cancelled. When they called later to see if we could take an earlier appointment time, I mentioned that I'd received that email and text and the woman on the phone seemed baffled, since our appointment was still set. Second, when our tech arrived for the diagnostic appointment, we were underwhelmed with his knowledge. Perhaps he was having an off day, but he seemed exceptionally confused about why we would have multiple sensors in the house if the air was not split into compartments. We purchased the extra sensors to make sure the house was heating or cooling to appropriate temperatures, based primarily on the temperature in our kids' rooms. Otherwise, the system would heat and cool to the temperature of our thermostat sensor, which is in the living room. Third, he measured the cool air coming out of the vents and told us it was cooling within the range it should be. He reiterated that it was functioning at a level they would be looking for, but still recommended that the entire system be replaced. While we know the system is old and underperforming, he couldn't give a solid justification for why we would need a new system when his tests showed it was, by his measurements, working fine. Finally, I was put off by the follow up email I received 13 days after the diagnostic visit. While I fully understand the need for follow up, the phrasing felt passive aggressive, referring to service I received "back in May." Although we had expressed strong interest in having coolant added to our system first to make sure it wasn't a problem caused by a slow leak, the only follow up mention was about replacing our entire system. While most of these things are small (the "cancellation," confusion about the sensors, and follow up email), they add up to an unsatisfactory experience, especially when combined with the feedback about how our system was cooling to spec (but that we should still buy a new one, for thousands of dollars, anyway). This is the 3rd time we've used Cosby after inheriting a house with a furnace and HVAC serviced by them in the past. Every time they have been extremely late -- sometimes by multiple days. Responsiveness has been an issue, as they do not give initial times they will be there, meaning you will be waiting the whole day not knowing whether they will be coming in the morning or the afternoon. When you call, the time often slips from morning, to afternoon, to sometimes a totally different day. This seems like an issue with their scheduling, as it's chronic, and is a big issue when customers must lose countless hours and income waiting at home to receive no response. This last time we waited at home, losing a day's worth of income again, only to have Cosby come out after dark, after their office had closed, our children were asleep, and they were 2 hours past the last time we'd been given (we'd been given several times already that day, all slipped). I informed the tech we would not having them look at our furnace until we talked with management about this responsiveness issue (not to blame the techs; this seems like a problem above their pay grade), as it's become commonplace for us to have to schedule our *week* around a *day* that they're supposed to come out (as we've had them slip entire days twice now). To that they offered to "look at our furnace now, check it out, and send the bill later." Uh, no thanks? If I'm *losing* income due to waiting all day for a tech that doesn't show until after working hours, I'm not sure how footing the bill later will help make up any lost income from their lack of responsiveness. It's especially egregious as we've been without a furnace for over a week. Thankfully our wood-burner and space heaters have kept us afloat and will continue to as we look at competitors. Price-wise, Cosby's has been slightly higher than average. Not an issue, if the customer service and responsiveness side was better. As of right now, I do not recommend their service. I'll change my review if they make amends somehow, but I'm quite distrustful of their business at this point. Less

The issue was not the furnace at all. The technician found the problem and saved a big headache. It was a melted fuse inside the electric box. This could of caused a fire.
