Was told we had to wait for two teeth to come in before putting braces on the front teeth to bring them together because we would have issues with brackets popping off if we only put them on two teeth, so the... I didn't have a great experience. Office staff are very friendly, doctor is very friendly. BUT every thing changes with every visit, the only thing consistent is them not being consistent. Was told we had to wait for two teeth to come in before putting braces on the front teeth to bring them together because we would have issues with brackets popping off if we only put them on two teeth, so they wouldn't recommend it at this time. 4 weeks later he says we need to get brackets on those two front teeth. I asked about the bottom teeth, he said they were completely cosmetic and not "needed" but we could put them on of we wanted. Fast forward 4 more weeks he says we "need" to get braces on the bottom teeth. THEN he says that there is too much gum recession and that shouldn't be happening, maybe we need to expand more on the bottom. So we expanded for a week or so and the expander was so close to the gums it caused food to get caught and swollen. Called in because my son was in pain and I'm told "The doctor said he is off till Wednesday". Luckily assistant came in and removed expander for us. I questioned a bottom tooth that you could see the root through the gum it was so pushed forward. Assistant said she would send the doctor a message and someone would call me. THREE weeks later no call. I had a consult with another orthodontist and the reason the tooth was pushing out and there were problems with the bottom teeth was because he has an extra permanent tooth that needs removed because it's over another permanent tooth that is trying to also come up. Just very dissatisfied with the care. I feel that the orthodontist should spend more than 1 min with a patient. Less

A little over a year ago Dr. Andros was brought on board at Smiles Dental in Salem OR as their in-house orthodontist. I decided to get braces in Feb 2017, although my situation was complicated Dr. Andros seemed confident he could get my teeth fixed. I had to have oral surgery and 2 teeth were being pulled up. Over time the teeth he was trying to pull up were shifting the teeth that were already there down, so my bottom teeth were visibly sloping down. This left me with an open bite gap and a lisp that the assistant even noticed. This was brought to his attention but nothing was done to prevent further shifting of the teeth. He just had the assistant re-tie the teeth that he was still trying to move. Visits with him never lasted longer than 5 mins, they were always the same, re-tie and re-band the brackets. The teeth were even before the surgery, the top and bottom teeth almost touched. In May 2018 Dr. Andros left Smiles to “pursue other interests” so I ended up at Yenne and Schofield. They’ve had to do corrective work since the first appt I had with them, they even said that one of the tooth may not even come in which is called ankylose. Dr. Andros never mentioned this. I recently had a routine appt with my dentist and it was brought up that I had seen Dr. Andros while he was here and I voiced to her that I was REALLY glad that things didn’t work out with Dr. Andros and that Y&S have been amazing. She also said that she was glad he wasn’t there anymore either. I met with my oral surgeon that same week and we discussed future plans to remove that ankylosed tooth. He stated that my previous orthodontist had set me backwards. It’s very disappointing and maddening that you place trust in a “professional” with your health and that trust goes down the drain. The doctor answers all of my questions without hesitation and the service is great. Although, as a oral health professional with a 4 year degree, I'm writing this review based not solely on the customer service, but the work as well. Their customer service is great! Although, heavy handed dentistry has me question to refer my patients. My teeth are straight and happy about that, but.. excess enamel that was unneccary was taken off, which you cannot gain back. The orthodontist was a bit too exited with the new bur and impressed how well it took bond off my teeth as he powers through and cut my gums completely, and seemed in a hurry to get me out of the chair. I left with raw gums and incisal edges not even. My gums were so raw that few of the dentists I work with were in shock how raw my gums were after the removal of the ortho bracets. Not only that, I had the dentist adjust the Incisal edge to have the perfect straight teeth. I'm a complete perfectionist when it comes to work on the dentition, and I was not to proud of the rough cutting marks on my teeth and the raw gingiva. Less
