Iron Knight Gym

while i do enjoy this gym and its environment, i have some key issues with it as well.issue number 1: lack of air conditioning. at iron knight, there are a few fans per side which offer some air flow, but on a good, hot day i find myself getting nauseous from the heat. while i understand that many people enjoy this aspect of the gym, i think it can get a little dangerous this time of year, and that they would benefit greatly from the addition of some newer, larger fans.issue number 2: lack of clean equipment. most equipment at iron knight does not get cleaned, at least regularly. almost all of the barbells have lots of rust on them, which will stain your clothes and skin. this also makes it particularly difficult to load plates onto the barbells and such.issue number 3: outdated equipment. on the crossfit/oly lifting side of the gym, most equipment is well kept and updated. however, on the powerlifting side of the gym, the majority of the equipment is worn and even broken. other equipment, like pins to adjust benches/squat racks, is missing entirely. there have been several instances in which i have hurt myself trying to adjust something, such as the other day when trying to do a low pin squat, where i bruised my nail and broke it off after catching my finger between the pin and the squat rack while trying to push and force the old, bent pin through the metal pipe and secure it into the rack.all in all, i enjoy the location of this gym and the fact that it allows me to get a good workout in while training for competitions. but in order to be a great gym, i really think it could use some work.edit:in the past few months, Iron Knight has undergone renovations to improve its quality and the enjoyment of its lifters. currently, the gym is cleaner and kept better than it was when i left my initial review.i will say, it could still do with a couple larger fans. it’s only getting hotter and more humid here in south florida, so it’s best for the health of the lifters to keep it cooler when possible. with barbells rolling down my back and my traps slipping on bench due to being slick with sweat, it’s safe to say we could use more airflow.the crowd here is as it’s always been. they’re kind, welcoming, and ready to hype you up when needed. whether you’re a seasoned powerlifter, or someone trying to get serious, Iron Knight really is a great place to go. i love coming here when I’m down from college because i know i can get it some quality training.key takeaways:avoid rust stains and wear dark clothes. bring cold water and even electrolytes, you’ll be sweating. it might even be good for you to bring a towel.
