Two months ago, I had not run in 15 years, was terribly out of shape, and was (still am) a full time working mom in a stressful field. I had come to believe that I never would feel strong again. After two months working at Evo with Dr. Abu for PT and Leah as a personal trainer, I am able to move without pain and truly believe that by spring, I will be able to hit the trails again. Evo offers an environment that is empowering and educational. Truly, the joy I now feel about the trajectory of my health is overwhelming. In case more specifics help, I’ll give my story below. But the main take-away is that if you need to feel better physically and mentally, call Evo as soon as you can. More Specifics: I am a 48 year-old mom who works full-time in a challenging environment and who, for the last 15-20 years, has not taken care of herself. In a past life that I honestly never thought I’d get back to, I used to be a trail runner (5-10 miles a day, longer distance races, could do dead lift pull-ups, etc.). Years of neglect meant chronic back pain and surgery. PT at traditional locations did not help at all. It was always the same. PT, shots, and then back to my routine of pain and dragging myself along. Then, perimenopause hit and I thought I was toast. I could barely move my arms above my head. I wanted to try something different and learned about Evo’s coupling of personalized PT and fitness training. I was worried, though, that I would feel out of place in a gym after letting myself go for so long. Let me tell you, this is the warmest and most inclusive workout space I’ve ever visited. All types of people are working out, from young athletes at their peak recovering in the off season to folks just like me. And the staff is fantastic!!! First, they set me up with Dr. Abu, who is incredibly knowledgeable about cutting edge recovery modalities. He worked with me to find exercises that stretched and loaded my body in a way that immediately started calming things down. Each session had me feeling stronger and in less pain than the last and adjustments were made in real time to minimize pain during recovery. He also partnered me with Leah, a personal fitness trainer, to identify a workout routine specific to my body. I started two months ago. With the blizzard last week, would you believe I shoveled a ton of snow and had NO PAIN after. Seriously, I felt better than I have in a decade. And I’m having fun while doing it. I look forward to working out. If you think you’re “past your prime” or that you just need to feel OK again, make an appointment at Evo because not only will they help your body, they’ll get your mind back to believing you can do anything. Highly recommended and thank goodness I found them! I love moving again!
