Vibravision

I recently completed a Level 3 Immersive training in Vibravision—an advanced integrated body-mind-spirit system originating from Indonesia—with its Chief Instructor, Mike Zeleznick, “Mas Mike." Part of my motivation in taking this training stems from my interest, research, study and writings about how “imperative” it is for humans today to surrender their illusion of safety and security—remaining in (retreating into) the familiar comfort of accepted expectations about what is possible—in order to face new, unknown threats and opportunities that are coming. Culture does not teach us to sit with the unknown long enough to see what might be possible, let alone develop new skills and abilities to turn our fear and fragility into fire. That is exactly what Mas Mike, through Vibravision, teaches people how to do. Author Nassim Nicholas Taleb uses the metaphor of describing modern humans as Fragile—“candles” that will snuff out in a moderate wind. Robustness (resilience) is putting your candle in a lamp to withstand more wind—white-knuckling. But another state Taleb calls Antifragility is when we turn ourselves into a “wildfire,” actually fueled by wind and becoming powerful, highly mobile and adaptable. Vibravision, seen in Taleb’s framework, is a form of “antifragility training.” In the first day of the training, Mas Mike calmly and matter-of-factly tells students, “I don’t fear anything.” That’s Antifragility. And then he leads them to see what might be possible, step by step.Mas Mike’s mastery in taking his students beyond their comfort and assumed limits is not to push through their fears with brute force but to short-circuit the parts of our brain where fear lives with his energetic exuberance, humor, great stories, a progressive building-block teaching system, and then many games that practice application of all the tools and teachings with fun, laughter, positive reinforcement, and a fast pace. His approach subtly bypasses the part of our brain that otherwise goes into stories of fear and limitation. The result feels miraculous, as we “see” in new ways and learn to engage and develop previously dormant abilities that allow us to move differently in the world. If you are willing to sit/stand/move in the “discomfort of the unknown” (often blindfolded) just long enough to allow your curiosity—realizing quick progress—to see what might be possible that you never imagined, then Vibravision is a great training, all in one integrated system, to do that.
