I’ve been going to Maya’s for over 3 years and have always appreciated the convenience of getting last-minute braid appointments. However, I was really disappointed with my most recent visit. I asked for Fulani braids and even shared a reference photo, but the cornrow section was done so tightly that there was no visible scalp on the sides. I’ve been getting my hair braided since I was 8, so I understand some tightness is normal—but after 4 days, the pain hadn’t subsided and I had to take them out early, which I’ve never had to do before. I also texted to share my concerns and never received a response, which added to my frustration. I truly wanted to love the style, but the discomfort and lack of follow-up were disappointing. Unfortunately, I won’t be returning after this experience.
