Miss Bloomingdale's Academy

I'm posting because reading these is how I find out the good and bad about daycares, preschools, etc. My family has three girls who started in the newborn, older 2s, and summer camp/kindergarten. Our daughters enjoyed going to Miss Bloomingdale's for about 15 months. We and the girls were sad about leaving Miss Bloomingdale's but needed to do so due to changing jobs/commutes.
My older daughters miss their teachers and friends from Miss Bloomingdale's. My kindergartner magically began reading a few months into school and has not stopped since. Ms. Kim brought vivacity, support, kindness and love to the kindergarten class every day and we saw that reflected in our daughter's growth.
Our middle daughter regularly brings up Miss Bloomingdale's out of the blue- honestly, if I could figure out a way to get her back there for PreK without adding two hours driving daily, I would in a heartbeat. She is a bit less adventurous and needier than her older sister. As her teachers and the staff would do for any student, they were able to approach her on the level she was on and there always ended up being something she was excited to tell me about by the end of the day.
The baby rooms are lovely and I have to admit, I feel in love with the play area outside the rooms when I first visited. Ms. Raquel loves the babies and watching them grow into little people.
Other great things:
- The staff, in general, are wonderful. Everyone will know you and your kids.
- Swimming pool and swim lessons (optional) during the summer! My older daughters could not get enough.
- In-house field trips and events. There were animals brought in (sloth, a lizard, etc.); police and firefighters; easter egg hunt; diwali; christmas performances; July 4th bike parade; pictures in the fall and spring.... I think you might be getting the idea.
- Optional extra activities in Soccer and Dance. (The dance recital costumes were beyond what I had expected.)
- Hearing about what happened with my kids from their teachers. For example, when my middle one was having problems, the staff would reach out or let me know during pick up. Same thing when something went well- the teachers or staff would let us know.
Of course, there are always things we wish were better or get unhappy about when you are with an organization for any reasonable length of time. Here are a few of those:
- Teacher turn over at one point in the older baby room was such the baby had a different teacher every week. Baby ended up with a bad diaper rash as she's got sensitive skin and the new teachers did not get transitioned in well. This was 2021- I don't know anything could have been done better or differently?
- Opportunities for better communication. We wouldn't always be aware of special events moving, particularly related to swim days.
Overall, if you're looking for a good, solid daycare/preschool through kindergarten, you would be lucky to have your children attend Miss Bloomingdale's.
