Usually when I write a bad review, I like to take my time and really think about it first. Honestly, for me it’s much harder to write a negative review than a positive one because I understand everyone can have an off day. But this experience deserves to be talked about — not just because of how bad it was, but to hopefully prevent someone else from going through the same thing.I went to Fresa y Chocolate in Westchester on April 18 because I had an event the next day and needed a very specific nail color. I had never been there before, but I decided to give it a try since the franchise is well-known and generally has a good reputation.I’ll start by saying the girl who attended me gets 100 points for attitude and kindness. She was sweet and polite the entire time. Unfortunately, when it comes to skill level… I genuinely felt like I may have been one of her first clients ever. Not only did she fail to properly remove the product I already had on my nails, but she over-filed some nails to the point where they became painfully thin — almost exposing the live nail bed in certain areas. Meanwhile, on other nails, she barely removed any product at all and simply applied the new product on top of it. The application itself was uneven: way too much product on the tips and barely any near the cuticle area, which caused lifting literally the next day.The worst part is that it wasn’t just ugly — it was physically painful.Three days later I had to go somewhere else and have everything completely redone from scratch. They had to cut my nails down significantly just to save them, and even the process of removing the leftover product hurt because my nails had been left so weak and damaged. I honestly cannot explain how sensitive and painful they felt afterward.I understand everyone has to learn somewhere, but clients should not have to pay good money to be someone’s practice model — especially when the result is damage and physical pain. It’s going to take me months to fully recover from what this girl did to my nails.I will not be returning, even if they paid me to.
