I’ve had such an amazing experience at Reef Adventure half day tour in Cairns. I don’t usually take the time to write reviews but I just had to for this one. I was so impressed with the staff and their attention to detail. I loved their energy, attentiveness and the way they were taking the time to talk to all of us. There were only 19 of us and the staff made sure we were well taken care of by offering us dry bags, jackets, snacks, song requests, always had their eyes on us when snorkelling. They created such a positive and fun atmosphere. I thought the half day was perfect, I felt like I got a good amount of time to see the reef, it didn’t tire me out (in fact, I felt more energized) and I still got to enjoy the rest of my day! The speedboat was so much fun, be prepared to get splashed once in a while but it’s all part of the fun! Felt like a rollercoaster.Another bonus, free video and pictures!! I cannot rave about this experience enough! I’ve done a couple other reef tours and this one is by far my favourite!! So worth it if you are looking for a short, fun and cheaper trip! Less

We had a great 1st dive then the boat moved to a 2nd site while lunch was served - prawns, ham, cheese, lots of salads and rolls, it was a good and plentiful selection for lunch in the sun. After lunch, we had a 2nd dive at the new site. Lots of pretty coral and fish to see. You can snorkel around your dive or just snorkel at both sites if you're not diving. On the way home, there are cold drinks/beers etc to enjoy! The trip was well worth it, all dive gear is included in the price, great service and a lovely lunch. It was a really good day out and I'll go again. Recommend! Less

Bottom line, go on a smaller boat with less people and a caring staff. This is our second time on the GBR and this was the best trip. Smaller boat so less snorkelers. Last time it took over 30 minutes just to get into the water as they were so many snorkelers. Our boat was the only boat at the two stops we made. We saw so many different fish 🐠🐟. In fact we were snorkeling among them. The coral was amazing as the sun filtered through the water. The crew was outstanding. The seasoned captain gave us a strong sense of security. Michelle handed out stinger suites along with sage advice. She also provided lots of food options. Muffins, tea and coffee on the way out, a huge luncheon spread and fruit with coffee and tea ☕🍵 after the second snorkel spot. You can purchase soft drinks and beer. But you can only have acholic after the last dive which is a great safety rule. You can use life vests and noodles, all included. Then, if you are feeling a bit timid being in the water, Jimmy will take you on a guided tour of the reef by pulling you around as you hold on to a flotation ring. A truly amazing time. Less

The reef is really high quality , lots of fish . It’s a smaller boat , so fewer people ( max about 40 I think )

The explanation before diving allowed us to understand basic functions of the equipment and made us feel safe. My partner was scared before her first dive and Francesco very effectively managed her stress and guided her under water, thereby allowing us to make the most of this experience. In general, the team was both funny and very professional. My only suggestion: the use of special coral protecting sunscreen (available in mission beach and Australia in general) should be recommanded in the mail communication as well as the use of swimmsuits on the boat in order to minimise the impact on the reef. We did a lot of research before we decided to book with Mission Beach Dive and so glad we did, after initially asking a few questions on Facebook and speaking to Nancy we decided to go ahead and book :) Out of 18 onboard we were the only 2 diving! The rest of the group were snorkelling only. We were welcomed onboard by Nancy, Frankie, Jimmy, Michelle & Daryl.We were originally only going to do 1 dive as we had read some stories about the GBR devastation in some places and most boats being more snorkel based compared to divers, and being on a budget as travelling, but after the first dive lead by Daryl we decided yep we will go again as the reef we were taken to was beautiful, with so much to see, and we were the only boat there!The onboard hospitality was amazing, everyone was so friendly and was so good to speak to the team onboard about our shared love of the ocean,diving and travelling.The food was out of this world, I am vegetarian but I had plenty of choice, with pasta, salad, potato salad, beetroot, bread and fruit. All the veggie food, was vegan friendly too! And they did cater for gluten free and other dietary requirements. For the meat and seafood eaters, there was cold meats and fresh prawns.The boat was well kept, multiple places you could sit and chill :) and ample room. Safety was paramount, and the team did an excellent job of looking after all of us! A girl on our boat decided to do a try drive and they were super professional and her safety was key which was awesome to see!We are so glad we went with this small local business in comparison to some of the bigger names that run out of Cairns rather than Mission Beach like these guys do, definitely worth the drive down to have an amazing Great Barrier Reef experience.Dive sites are pretty shallow, first one was around 20-24m and the second deepest was 12m but you get to have a longer good quality dive with loads to see! So cannot complain :)We got to see some species native to the GBR like the Rainfords Butterflyfish, saw a big turtle, loads of rays, the cutest anemone shrimp as well as so much other life! Fast and easy service to Dunk Island. A lack of jetty Mission Beach side means you can get slightly wet boarding so wear thongs.

This was our second outer reef tour (first was from port douglas) and it was by far the better one! Smaller group, more personal crew and a lot of time to be out in the water! I dove with MBDS on Boxing Day and was impressed but also extremely disappointed. The boat is in great condition and the crew are really friendly which made the day fun.My problems came once we started the dive. I’m an instructor and my brother was doing his DSD.At the surface the instructor had the three of them clear their masks while floating and that was the only skill he went over. Once we dropped on the sand he made them neutrally buoyant and started the dive. No reg rocovery, mask clearing, reg clearing, nothing...Then as we dove the instructor picked up a sea cucumber and passed it around (I obviously didn’t take part in this) for everyone to hold!I couldn’t believe it. We’re supposed to be advocates for the ocean, to be her voice!Taking ppl diving for the first time and showing them its “cool” to touch stuff!? I’m was angry to say the least.The boat drifted at the surface interval and hardly moved and then we were at our next site. Quite a few ppl made the comment that we hardly moved because we could see the sand bar from the first dive but nothing changed and we got ready for the next dive.On this dive he said we would see a giant clam that’s said to be incredibly old.When we dropped down someone was feeding a coral trout which was allowing them to pet it.First touching stuff , now feeding fish prawns from the bbq.We found the ancient clam, and you guessed it, everybody take your turn touching the inside as it tries to close!Unbelievably disappointed with the behaviour underwater. The staff were so great on the boat it’s a shame that they carry on this way underwater.They were super friendly, the bbq was great and they were accommodating.I just wish they behaved better underwater and were setting an example rather than adding to the problem. If you are near Mission beach this trip is a must. A great day out, see the reef, eat some beef and have a beer with the chief.

The best way to get out to the reef! We were on a small boat with 16 people and a really nice crew. They always gave their best to make sure everyone is happy. The scuba diving and snorkeling spots are amazing and the food was fresh and good! Thank you so much!... More

We had a great day with Mission Beach Dive. They took us to beautiful dive sites at Beaver Reef and Eddy Reef. Professional and friendly staff, good equipment, tasty lunch. Please note they only do scuba diving every other day, so check their dates! Highly recommended!... More

The agency was very organized and well run. We were greeted by extremely warm front line staff and Bella the doggie door greeter was a bonus! The crew that brought us out to the snorkeling/diving site was great too. And the buffet lunch was surprisingly good and sumptuous! The only suggestion I have is perhaps to provide a more detailed briefing for first timers or non-confident swimmers like me... More

Overall the staff were really nice and the food surprisingly tasty. I do recommend that if you are a beginner diver with your certification that you do your swim with the instructor teaching the introductory class. Overall the staff were really nice and the food surprisingly tasty. I do recommend that if you are a beginner diver with your certification that you do your swim with the instructor teaching the introductory class. My Neice and I were on our second and first divesrecpectively after certification and had some problems. I couldn’t breathe at first going down, and once we were down she had trouble with using/losing air quickly and panicked necessitating an unplanned ascent. The instructor, Nigel, I think, was very unprofessional in dealing with both of these issues and actually told my neice, “You need to get another hobby!!” As well as other rude things and was equally rude to me when I had trouble descending. He made her return to the boat after only 20min instead of identifying and fixing the problem and explaining to her what her problems were. I specifically told one of the instructors that we were newbies prior to the dive. The second dive we did with the other instructor teaching the beginners class and he was very kind and patient and we had a wonderful time even after our first difficult experience so overall I would recommend them with this one caviat. We went to the reef yesterday with Mission Beach Dive and had a FABULOUS day. The weather was not perfect, but it didn't matter. The fish life and coral at Eddy Reef was excellent. We even saw an octopus and a reef shark, amongst heaps and heaps of other marine life.The staff were really friendly and only too happy to help with anything throughout the day.The prior we also utilised the Mission Beach Water Taxi (also operated by Mission Beach Dive) to go to Dunk Island and also did the tour around some of the islands and got off at Bedarra Island. This too was excellent and the reason why we decided to go to the reef the next day. Both Dunk Island and Bedarra Island are quintessential tropical islands. Golden Sandy beaches, very few people, coconut palms of the beach and crystal clear water. We had the best time and highly recommend both trips to anyone. Less
