We have been working with folks from the NoCo Doula Collective since being pregnant, and I cannot recommend strongly enough working with them throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum.Essentially nothing about our birth went how we were planning / hoping, except for the fact that we were surrounded by amazing people who supported us through every moment and every decision. Julianne worked closely with us before the birth to not only talk through our 'ideal' scenario for birth, but also encouraged us to think about what we would want to have happen if things didn't go as planned. After my water breaking at 42 weeks pregnant without going into labor, I was suddenly at the hospital, hooked up to an IV, hoping that my body would cooperate to let us move forward with the water birth we had been hoping for. Julianne supported us through this initial challenge, and then as labor progressed, she was with us every step of the way. She helped me work through the pain in creative ways that were personalized to me and informed by my history, and helped my husband to support me and to take care of himself. Eventually, as we made the call to first get an epidural, and then eventually to move forward with a C Section, Julianne was there. Thanks to her proactive approach before birth, instead of making a plan during a very difficult time, we were reviewing things that we had talked about before. We were able to confidently decide how to move forward, and she was there through the surgery and our daughter's birth. When our daughter had to go to the NICU, again, we were acting on a plan that we had made before, just in case. Julianne stayed with me while my husband went with our daughter, and she was communicating with us both non-stop, sending pictures and updates so that we could stay connected. I truly can't imagine going through this process without her, and am so grateful for her and the rest of the team at NoCo Doula Collective. After our birth, Julianne continued to work with us as a lactation consultant, helping us to work towards nursing after an initial NICU stay that necessitated bottle feeding. We are now happily nursing, and recently reintroduced bottle feeding with me back at work. Additionally, we worked with Jessi for postpartum support, both at night and during the day, and it was so amazingly helpful. She truly felt like part of the family, whether it was talking to me while I nursed in the middle of the night, giving feeding advice, cooking us amazing meals, or helping to put our daughter back to sleep so I could get a few more minutes of sleep. Finally, I have worked with several other members of the team during virtual and in-person support groups since giving birth, and they do a fantastic job nurturing community and connections. All that to say, signing up to work with the NoCo Doula collective is not just birth support. It is an invitation into a family and community that will support you well beyond your birth.
