I wholeheartedly trust and recommend Love in the Lead. I sent my 4 year old golden retriever to the 4 week board and train program based on the success my friend’s dog had in the program. My dog was incredibly anxious and had high levels of arousal. He had injured me multiple times on walks, and he wasn’t able to be included with the family as he’d tackle the elderly or my nephews. He was incredibly fearful of the car and would bolt from it. It was impossible to take him anywhere, not only to put him in the car but to have him settle in public spaces. Now, Hank loads himself up in the car and walks beautifully on and off leash. He can take naps at breweries and he’s crate trained for the first time in his life. Wow, where do I start? We consulted with many dog training companies in the area, and eventually landed on Love In The Lead. From my first conversation with them, I knew we had found the right fit. Our family is happy with the progress our one-year-old Great Pyr has made under the care and direction of the Love in the Lead trainers. Our dog went into the program with no prior obedience training or leash training. She pulled and I lacked control on walks; and she refused to get into the car. She also lacked socialization with people and other dogs. Now, she walks beautifully (heels) on her leash, and can follow basic commands including sit and down, and “load up!” (for the car). Love in the Lead trainers also taught us how to work with her through situations where she was fearful of sounds or her surroundings, and how to recognize her cues and to better communicate with each other. We are now all comfortable going on long walks on the greenway, outings in public places, and meeting new people and dogs. Rebecca and the trainers were all very compassionate, kind, patient and responsive. Watching our dog reunite with trainers during a post-graduation pack walk reaffirmed that she was extremely well-cared for during her stay. Our trainer even gave her a much-needed grooming and taught us how to continue maintaining her thick coat. Rebecca and her team saved us and our dogs. Our pups, Buford (a rescue Basset Hound with anxiety) and Baxter (a rescue pit bull mix), started to have major issues after we brought my parent’s dog into the house. To put it bluntly, I thought Buford and Baxter would kill each other. The fights were vicious, scary, and seemingly unprovoked. We were desperate for help and thank goodness we found Love in the Lead. We sent our pups to Rebecca and her team for three weeks, and the dogs came back completely changed. They walked beautifully on the leash (no more leash fighting), came when we called them, stopped barking incessantly, and best of all, lived peacefully together in the house. Rebecca was with us all the way while she trained us how to “be” around our dogs (and yes, I learned that my mentality absolutely matters in terms of my dogs’ behaviors). There have been many lessons learned over the course of this journey, but the best part is that our dogs are friends again. We live in a peaceful household now without the fear of tragedy. We used Love in the Lead for our Golden for obedience training several years ago to help him learn not to pull me since I have mobility and balance issues and walk with a cane. We heard about them from our daughter who had great success with LitL with her rambunctious Lab puppy. When we lost our 9 year old Golden in April, it didn't take long to contact LitL to help us source a Golden puppy. Rebecca found us the perfect puppy through one of her breeder partners and we entered him in the Puppy Prodigies program where he spent 5 months in training. We have had him home for a week now and he is such a good boy! You wouldn't think he is a puppy, he walks really well with me, listening to my every request, he is crate trained and sleeps through the night, he doesn't jump, he is good at socializing with other dogs and children and he is very calm. I would highly recommend Love in the Lead for training needs, I have special requirements and the LitL team took them into account and delivered the perfect dog to us. They also spend the time necessary to train us (not sure we are as well trained as our Rory is though!) in how to be consistent with Rory and keep him focused. Beyond thankful & so very pleased with everyone we have gotten to work with through Love In The Lead in Charlotte! This was our first experience with using a trainer, but it's the best money ever spent and I am grateful that our breeder, Harmony Doodles recommended contacting Rebecca. LITL picked up our new miniature Goldendoodle, Remy straight from the breeder when she was 9 wks old for her 6 week Puppy Training. They took her for her vet appointment to ensure all was well and to get needed vaccinations. They communicated immediately afterward with a summary of the visit and sent all of the necessary records and paperwork. Remy lived with her trainer, Meagan for 6 weeks and throughout that time I received communications twice a week one with photos and a brief update and then another at the end of the week with more details on how she was progressing with crate-training, potty-training, socialization in a variety of settings and different environments and with appropriate interactions with other dogs. Meagan gave great detailed summaries each week of how she reacted in every situation, how she was motivated to learn and the rare times that she got scared i.e. July 4th fireworks caused her to have a setback in her potty training. Meagan and Rebecca were both very helpful in ensuring I had all the necessary records that Remy needed for her first vet appointment after I brought her home. Also LITL gives you a wonderful schedule that they had Remy on so it makes the transition back home so smooth. The very first night that Remy came home we had absolutely no whining and the only issues we had with wetting were her "excitement" tinkle when we would come let her out of her crate. As Meagan advised, Remy quickly got over that as she got acclimated to her new home with us. LITL also shares a great list of supplies that are helpful to have in advance of bringing your puppy home. Since Meagan had been with Remy for 6 weeks, she knew what she liked and so I only bought what I needed not what Remy showed no interest in. My husband, daughter and I all enjoyed the training session that Meagan gave us on Remy's "pick-up" day. It was great to spend time with the trainer and Remy ensuring we knew how to properly continue reinforce all the positive behavior's that Remy had learned and how to make a good correction when needed. After we brought Remy home, Meagan followed up both the day after and a week later to see how she was doing and to answer any questions. I can't begin to express how much the training made a difference in the stress and enjoyment of bringing a new puppy home. We didn't do anything close to this with our first puppy and it has made all the difference in the world. WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND LOVE IN THE LEAD!! Remy has done so well that my friends question why I have her signed up for her 3 week Advanced Puppy training when she is 7 months old but I know the trainers at LITL will only reinforce all of her positive behaviors and continue to encourage new growth and learning to make Remy the most pleasant & loving dog for our family. I cannot say enough good things about Love in the Lead! I have now had 2 Corgis that have gone through two different programs here: 6-week Puppy Head Start and 3-week Board and Train. Puppy Head Start set my dog, Ivy, off on the right foot and provided her with a great foundation. It certainly made the puppy raising process much smoother. After adopting a year-old Corgi, Theo, in May, I immediately enrolled him in the 3-week Board and Train program due to a lack of training from his previous owner and some unwanted behaviors. He hasn’t even come home yet and I’ve already been beyond impressed with what I’ve heard and seen via their email and social media updates in terms of differences and improvements in Theo’s behavior. Beyond working magic with their training programs, the trainers show so much love and care to the dogs and treat them as their own while they’re away from home. I’ve had the pleasure of working with Meagan (for Puppy Head Start) and Gabby (for Board and Train) and both have been fantastic. When we adopted our rescue dog, we imagined daily walks and taking her to breweries, but those dreams never came to fruition. She began exhibiting anxious behavior issues during our first year with her, including fence fighting, cat chasing and leash aggression, just to name a few of a very long list.My husband and I tried multiple other training programs and had a trainer give up on us. Our sweet marlee attended training at love in the lead. We were thankful we made the decision. Everyday new pictures or videos were uploaded of our girl and her progress which helped reassure us that she was happy and in great hands. We had the best experience with Love in the Lead for our Golden Retriever’s puppy training. Rebecca and her team were very communicative during the whole 6 weeks weeks our puppy was away for training, providing frequent updates about his training, activity, and boarding schedule, his vet visits, and his training progress. We also received multiple photos each week that helped us miss our puppy a little less. We really looked forward to those updates and photos! We got to visit our puppy about halfway through his training so we could get an in person update and some snuggles. At the conclusion of the training, Rebecca brought our puppy to our home to work with us on reintroducing him to our home and to educate us on all the training commands. Rebecca has been very responsive to all communication since we first reached out about potentially signing up for training, and she continues to be responsive and helpful for any questions we’ve had since our puppy has been home. I have a very high energy dog with the craziest temperament but I love her to pieces. I had the hardest time walking with her and really didn’t enjoy taking her places because I felt like I had no way to communicate with her. I couldn’t get her to calm down and I had no way to exercise her safely because she had no recall and was terrible on a leash. I tried so many training programs but none seemed to work. When someone recommended Love in the Lead, I was nervous because it was a board and train program that was far away from where I lived.I am SO thankful for Love in the Lead because they have given me a new ability to enjoy time with my dog without the fear of miscommunication between us. She now walks so well on a leash, has excellent recall, and has such great manners when I introduce her to others. She is so obedient- she is still her crazy self but now I can enjoy her energy without being afraid!Each trainer eased my nerves about the board and train process and kept me updated regularly with pictures, emails, and social media posts. Love in the Lead has been wonderful to work with. I recently moved to Charlotte from Brooklyn and needed a new trainer as well as a boarding option for my 3 year-old rescue Tela. Tela had been attacked by a dog on leash in Brooklyn and her reactivity to unknown dogs after the incident was starting to escalate. I was hesitant to do a board and train program since they are expensive and we were managing just fine, she was well mannered in the home and walked well on leash. However, I quickly signed her up after she reacted to another dog on a hike and redirected on me. I only wish I sent her sooner. After three weeks Tela came back a different dog and I now have more confidence in her ability to handle situations since I have a way to communicate with her. We are able to do so much more together now. Since her board and train in November we've attended pack walks and group classes which have been a great way to keep up with her training. All of the trainers have been so helpful and clearly care about Tela and her progress. Tela is always so happy to see them and go to graduate classes. Meagan, Rebecca, and the rest of the team at Love in the Lead have been so wonderful to work with on our dog issues. We have two dogs similar in age who started to fight in our home, and our younger dog's dog reactivity was out of control (we couldn't bring him out, and I dreaded walks). We spoke with several programs in the CLT area before choosing LITL. Rebecca had an intro call with us and she explained the program in depth, including their philosophy of training dogs to exist and gain comfort/confidence in everyday situations. It was tough for us to drop off our dogs (who are like our children) for weeks at a time, but Love in the Lead is very active on social media, posting updates frequently of the training, and we received frequent photos in their private communication portal. We also received a weekly report card (email) that was very detailed with updates. Aside from the constant communication about our pup's whereabouts and progress, they are very knowledgeable trainers and spend lots of time teaching us humans what's also needed. They've been accommodating to our needs and truly spent time working on our dog's behavioral issues. It's also clear that they care greatly for the dogs in their program, and our dogs get so excited to see Meagan during follow-ups and classes. We're a few months into the work and go to their free post-grad-only classes, which is great to have a controlled environment to practice around well-trained dogs. We didn't know the boundaries we needed, and with these tools, our dogs can interact more comfortably, and we've seen significant progress with overall demeanor around one another. Our reactive dog has improved a TON, and I bring him to the coffee shop, on errands, etc. Now that he and I both know the protocol when we see another dog, it's so much easier to manage what used to feel like impossible situations. My 1 y/o toy poodle was full of energy! All he knew was eat, sleep and play! Due to the heavy losses in my personal life I had no energy. A dog trainer referred us to Love In The Lead. Well, little Bodie has manners now! He actually comes from a walk and puts himself in “place” until I release him! It’s so funny! He’s learned not to jump on the furniture unless I invite him up! I enrolled my goldendoodle Simba (8 months at the time) mid March for the 3 week program. He had a ton of energy, was very nippy & was very reactive inside & outside of the home towards anyone including me & my husband. It got to the point that I had to use the word attack to describe every time we would go on a walk or when would be allowed out to roam in the house. I had bruises, scratches and ripped clothes. We attempted personal training at 1st, but did not see much change. We were very hesitant to give it a try due to the previous experience we had & all the money we had already spent, but are truly glad we did. Rebecca & her team are amazing! These ladies know exactly what they are doing & treat your dog as if they were their own. They give you the proper tools & education you need to continue at home. What I love is that after the boarding program, they still continue to work with you with their monthly group sessions, so you never lose touch with them. I enrolled Maverick (XL American Bully) in their 6 week puppy program. Knowing he was going to grow into a 120 lb dog I knew I needed to give him the right foundation with Love in the Lead. Maverick was a VERY energetic and mouthy puppy. After 6 weeks with Rebecca and her team he is so much calmer and so well behaved. He does have his puppy moments, but he redirects easily. I would venture to say that our experience with Love In The Lead (LITL) mirrors every other review you’ll read here. Rebecca and her team are as fantastic as you’ll read about in other client reviews.We reached out to LITL in November 2021 as we had a four month old German shepherd puppy, Inola who was fairly well-behaved but frightened of loud noises and cars passing by which made walking impossible. From our first conversation with Rebecca, I could tell that she had a genuine interest in helping ensure that this puppy overcame any fears and became a well-rounded companion for our family. In fact, Rebecca got us into a program sooner than would have otherwise been possible to ensure these issues were addressed sooner rather than later. Inola was enrolled in the two-part puppy board and train program and she started in late November 2021. The first segment worked on Inola’s leash walking, confidence and basic obedience, among other things. The second segment she attended in May 2022 focused on reliable recall and off-leash obedience. During the sessions Love in the Lead provided numerous updates both via email, phone calls and social media regarding Inola’s progress. And in between sessions, LITL checked in and came to our home for a one-on-one session. As many others can attest, the puppy we got back was not the puppy we dropped off. It was really incredible to see the positive transformation.Inola is now 11 months. We had a Labrador puppy named Lighting in need of training and a 6 year old pit mix Luna that suffers for low confidence/anxiety and was getting a little snappy around our 3 young kids. I was thoroughly impressed with Love in the Lead!I was hesitant to get a puppy at first – I didn’t have confidence that I could potty/crate/obedience train all by myself while working from home. Then I found Love in the Lead. I really liked that they had such a strong social media presence. I felt like I could really get a good idea of their program and how they treated the animals while doing my research.They were able to take my 8-week old puppy, Manny, right away in their 6-week puppy training program and were super responsive throughout his training. I appreciated that they took care of his vet and grooming visits while he was there. My 6 month old pup came back from her Phase 2 training and she was a completely different dog in the all the best ways. Still enthusiastic and driven but much more focused. It was so nice to have a dog that didn't pull on the leash and stayed right by my hip while walking. One of my favorite things is the tone recall, which is super helpful having PTSD. Updates are given weekly and pictures and videos are posted on social media so you get to see the progress. We will be going back for Phase 3 and 4 of her service dog training once she matures. We took our 9 month old golden retriever to Love In The Lead last month and it was amazing. We have worked with Love in the Lead for both of our dogs this year. Our 2 year old rescue had a lot of issues with fear and reactivity to strangers. We had worked with many trainers in past with this dog and with previous rescue dogs with various issues. We discussed previous training styles we have used with other trainers in the past with Rebecca. She patiently listened to everything we have tried and then gave me her philosophy. She recommended that we read “The Good Dog Way” by Sean O’Shea and my mind was blown. I would highly recommend that anyone looking into professional dog training read this book before committing to a trainer. We have spent so much money over the years working with professional trainers with differing philosophies, and I wish I had been more educated on this method of training.I was always taught that “corrections” were “punishment” and that e-collars were evil and abusive. When I was allowed to feel what my dog feels with the e-collar they use at Love in the Lead, I couldn’t even detect anything on my own palm. The difference in our rescue girl is nothing short of astounding. She is now able to live a much more full and enjoyable life because she has been given the gift of this training. We are able to have her off of the leash and we no longer have fear that she will bark at people when they approach her. We enrolled our 2 year old goldendoodle Daisy in the 3 week board and train program and it was the best money we have ever spent! I spoke to many different businesses before deciding on Love in the Lead and here is why I chose them:Many businesses would try to “sell” me on a product such as a collar, tell me how they would fix my dog without even hearing what I needed or give me some generic sales pitch and I felt like I was at a car dealership. They also didn’t list pricing anywhere and it was difficult to know what I would be getting into. Love in the Lead is the exact opposite of this. They list pricing right on their website and have tons of information about the program and videos to watch. When I had my initial consultation I felt that they truly cared about my dog and understood what we were looking for. They didn’t try to sell me on anything, instead we spoke about my dog and what I was hoping to achieve. We just enjoyed a family camping weekend with our 9 month old pup, who recently completed Advanced Obedience training with Love in The Lead. Rebecca and her team did a phenomenal job preparing him to enjoy off-leash hiking, to calmly enjoy affection from everyone he met and even to help a little girl overcome her fear of dogs as she observed Archer being calm and under my control no matter what. Love in the Lead was such a perfect choice for our family. Top notch training, attention and care. Our pup got one-on-one training that really supported him being such a gentleman when he came home to us. The weekly updates and pictures were always thorough and such a delight. The level of care towards shown us for our goals and our specific family dynamics was so valued by us. They even made sure we had a thorough training in our home on drop off day which was golden! I had the best experience with Love in the Lead. My dog Fig had issues with dog aggression, “happy peeing” when she got excited, and being pushy for affection. If other dogs were around it got so difficult to walk Fig, and I adapted my schedule by walking at night to avoid other dogs. She had several incidents where she attacked other dogs. It broke my heart to think that I might lose her, and that another dog could get hurt.I found Love in the Lead and hoped that Fig could improve, even just a little bit would be a success. But I couldn’t believe how much she changed. She’s more calm, respectful, and so obedient in walks. I loved reading all her updates and seeing photos of her training trips. When it came time for ME to be trained, the instructions were really easy and I am incorporating them into my everyday life with Fig. Throughout the whole process I felt very supported, and I felt like the trainers gave Fig love and affection along with her training. This meant so much to me, knowing that Fig was truly cared for.I hope that other people with reactive dogs can read my testimony and feel reassured that their dog can receive the help they need. My dog, Yennifer, completed Love in the Lead's 4-wk behavior modification training program recently for her separation anxiety. Yennifer chewed through many crates including the "indestructible" one. Each time she escaped, I had horrible destruction to clean up after. These incidents accumulated to thousands of dollars in property damage, emergency vet visits, PTOs, meds, behavioral vet visits, piles of alternative anxiety-relief products and etc. In addition, 3 years of separation anxiety fractured 13 teeth with subsequent abscesses and grounded her other teeth to the gums. I was emotionally at my wit's end. I was hesitant at first since the 4-wk program is not a light financial investment, but oh my goodness, I don't regret a single penny. Now Yennifer is not only obedient inside and outside with or without leash, but also can be alone out of the crate while I'm at work. This is a lifestyle I never thought possible. The amazing trainers especially Meagan and Rebecca worked on improving Yennifer's mindset and building confidence. Then, they focused on how I can be a stronger owner/trainer for Yennifer in multiple sessions. They are quick to answer you if you have any resurfacing behavioral issues after the training program.
