We got the platinum variable speed because we are older and wanted one that will be very good and last a long time. American Standard has a great warranty on parts and Top Gun have a warranty that you can get that also covers labor. I never like to leave a mediocre review but my experience has been a little disappointing or I have some of the worst luck. After going through a few proposals, I ended selected Top Gun to install a Daikin Fit. Here is how the process has been going. 6/25: the unit was installed with minimal problems. 7/3: a tech came back to take pictures to submit to the city for approval. He noted that there were a few missing items. 7/10: a tech came out to resolve the identified missing items for city approval. He did not have all the items to complete the process and will need to return. 7/17: a tech came out to complete the final items noted in the last visit. He noted that the condenser unit might be leaking oil. 7/19: a tech came out to inspect the unit to see if it was repairable. He said the condensing unit is defective and will need to be replaced. He recharged the unit and said it should get me through most of the weekend before the unit can be replaced on Monday 7/22. 7/20: within 24 hours of the tech recharging the system, the unit has stopped cooling. I can probably tolerate 24 hours without AC but 48 would be pushing it, especially depending on the weather. I called the emergency line to see if there could be a band-aid fix to get me through the next 48 hours. I was told that unfortunately, due to environmental rules, they cannot recharge again so they will try to get me some portable AC units in the meantime. I never received a callback so I decided to get my own portable unit to keep at least one room cool in my house. 7/22: a new unit was put in place. Hopefully it lasts longer. I know it happens but getting a top-of-the-line unit to have it break down in less than a month is still disappointing and leading to quite a bit of buyer’s remorse. Fortunately, the weather cooled significantly on Sunday, but to be SOL and pretty much on my own with a defective unit could have ended poorly if we had normal June Texas weather. Adjusting my work schedule for the multiple visits have been inconvenient to say the least. The workers I’ve interacted with have been pleasant to work with. Less

I recently had a disappointing experience with Top Gun Heating and Air that I need to share. I scheduled an AC tune-up for my relatively new unit, which cost me $100. After the service, I was informed that my condenser coils were dirty and needed a chemical cleaning, which would cost $500 per unit. This seemed exorbitantly high, especially considering the age and condition of my unit. Feeling uneasy about the recommendation, I decided to call around to other HVAC companies. To my surprise, I discovered that other companies include a standard cleaning as part of their AC tune-up service. It became clear that what should have been a routine part of the service was instead presented as an unnecessary upsell for a costly chemical toxic cleaning, which is rarely needed. These are deceptive practices that try to take advantage of customers in this area when inflation is already taking a toll. I don’t trust management or this company at all. Any company with 4.9 stars is obviously manipulating the reviews.I. expected a straightforward service, not a sales pitch for an expensive add-on. I will be reporting to BBB. I would advise others to be cautious and seek a second opinion before agreeing to any additional services that may not be necessary. Less

They apologized for what happened and said that the cost difference was due to a miscommunication. They offered to refund the $99 for this trouble (not something we expected or were looking for). We both appreciate and have much respect for companies that are willing to talk about things that have gone wrong, with or without a refund. ___________________________________ Called them Sunday to have them come out (we had the downstairs doors open which made too much condensation for the drain line to handle because the pipe was clogged). We bypassed the sensor so we could have AC until we could get someone out. The guy on the phone asked if we could wait until during the week (not on-call) and then the cost to come out and clear the line would be $99 instead of $199 on Sunday. Yesterday (Monday) my husband made the appointment for today (Tuesday). Today Jacob came out and cleared both lines. No parts needed; he just used the equipment he had, no big deal, took a few minutes. Then he said it was $300 plus change. My husband told him that the guy on Sunday said it would be $99 total and that $300 is actually more than if the on-call guy came out on the weekend! Jacob went out and made a phone call and came back in and charged us $99. He told us that because we didn’t make them come out on Sunday (on-call) that they could lower it for us 🙄. He said that well of course we have to pay for the CO2 cartridge. <we do know that we have to pay for supplies> Sorry, but this feels like they were trying to -literally- triple the price. All this fancy schmancy new technology threw me for a loop so after they left I didn’t really understand all the bells & whistles. I struggled through the weekend to do settings correctly and try to keep cool, to no avail. I knew I needed a tutorial, so I contacted rep that sold me the system and he had main office send out just the right guy (immediately). I was frazzled and felt like an idiot, but Justin took his time to show me how to set a schedule, and other features and answer my questions. He explained for me how the settings of cooling mode, fan, and compressor work to balance humidity and make my home cool. Besides not understanding how to make the system run properly, humidity was a big issue. Thanks to my hero tech, Justin, I now have a better understanding of my new system with heat pump. He made just the right adjustments to cut the humidity. I can’t say Thank You enough to Justin for being patient, professional and kind. When David and Mike came out to give a quote, they spent nearly 2 hours breaking everything down and helping us to understand what was needed and evaluate what would be the best option for us. Means a lot for a company to invest so much time when you were making such a huge purchase. The other folks who came out to give us quotes definitely didn’t engage with us like David and Mike did. We ultimately chose to go with Top Gun and I am beyond thrilled that we made that choice. Literally the day after we said “Go” they had their crews at our house and knocked everything out in one day. Every single person that worked this job was an employee of Top Gun and was so polite and professional. You could tell that they all took so much pride in what they were doing, and really value the company that they work for. After they left, we actually had an issue with the thermostat and I called David at 9:30 PM on a Friday night and he had somebody out in 20 minutes to make things right - huge shout out to Jon for saving the day! This will give you peace of mind. You might have spent $30k to gut perfectly good equipment, but at least you trusted them. P.S. I did most the steps listed here and I'm highly satisfied. Also there is definitely no ladder to access to the attic (other AC company was even angry they could easily walk up to the attic). Breaking from being funny: This company gave me a call and squarely agreed I paid for a diagnostic but they agreed they didn't diagnose it. They flat out lied in their reply except about their problems with new units. I in fact want to replace outside unit but I made it very clear several times that I called them out to get an accurate diagnostic so I could know what all should be replaced. I was open to replacing many parts of the system, but I'm not replacing things like my furnace that are 100% functional and only 6 years old. They had ladder access, I've been up there, other technicians have been up there. I showed John how to get access. Top Gun left us in the heat and refused to diagnose how to fix our AC besides just replacing the EVERYTHING. I’ve contacted at least 3 different companies and I’ve never spoken to such an honest vendor that focuses on solutions rather than profit. During the course of the project, another issue came up with my evaporator coil going bad and he was able to put together a solution in such short notice. He sends a team led by Kevin Sanchez and they worked until 1am to make sure the job is complete. Anyone can come and install whatever but I have never come across a team that is extremely polite, knowledgeable and professional. It was late and I could hear them in the attic talking to each other saying “we going to get this right, and we are going to get this done”. Then we were presented with an estimate of over $13K to install a new system. I did some research and admit, I did not read ALL of the EPA regs. Did not see anything about it being illegal to recharge a system with less than 15 pounds of freon. If anyone can point me in that direction, I'd appreciate it and will have learned. We called someone else and they put exactly one pound of freon in. That HVAC guy said it's not necessarily time to replace yet, but if we did it would be under $8K. Edit: I appreciate Top Gun's response to this review. Top Gun is prompt in coming when asked. Justin was courteous and respectful. I understand the fee for checking the system. About recharging the system, I was told by Justin 'the EPA kind of strangles us on those things. I can't afford a ten thousand dollar fine.' Nothing was said about policy. On the next appointment he saw how it wasn't working, he found several things wrong, one was as simple as a loose connection but the other issue was bad communication with the board. Everything has worked great since he was here. Throughout the whole process Jon let me know what was going on. When they left you couldn't tell they had even been here.Fast track 3.5 months later and we had a leak in our attic that we thought was related to the installation/HVAC System. I submitted a request online before they opened and within 30 minutes I got a call. They scheduled me for the same afternoon and before Kyle left, I was no longer sweating sitting in my house! Our AC suddenly quit working last night. The AC unit is only 3 years old, and we figured it was a simple fix. We called the original company that installed the unit, and the soonest they could come out was in 7 days. We reached out to our neighbor whom we had seen Top Gun at their house several times. We called them-and mind you, this is on a Friday morning- and they said they could be out between 4-6 pm. They texted when they were on the way and arrived at our house around 5ish. He diagnosed the problem as a blown capacitor within 5 minutes of being on scene. It took about 30 minutes for the whole repair and he even went up in the attic and changed our air filter. We were totally impressed by this company and will probably use them for HVAC maintenance because they were so much more responsive than the company that installed our original and replacement HVAC.
