I decided to enroll my 4 year old in this program because of all the promotional emails i received saying how this was the perfect activity for a young child to learn discipline and focus. That it is specially helpful for ADD ADHD kids. That's what they told me. However, I'm very disappointed. As soon as the kids stop listening or following their instructions they don't like it and eventually just after a few classes they tell you to stop bringing them. That they are not ready. Why? Because they don't stay still long enough and can't do all the techniques perfectly right away or all the time. Plus, They don't individually teach them what to do, they just expect them to right away learn what to do and follow their instructions. Come on, they are small children and they are not going to get it right away!! Of course they are going to act out and not follow orders, that's why they are being taken to this type of training in the first place!! I think that the instructors don't have the patience for small kids so really they shouldn't advertise to parents with small kids or kids with attention problems if they don't know how to teach them. So now i have a sad child crying and wondering why he can't keep going to the class he loved so much! Because he is ready he had already learned some of the techniques and was beginning to understand that he had to pay more attention. But you cant expect a 4 year old boy to be perfectly still all the time and follow direction perfectly right away, just after a few sessions! We are very disappointed. Therefore, I cannot recommend this to parents seeking to help their children learn to pay attention better, develop discipline, Become more focused, or simply have fun learning martial arts for a future in this sport. If they don't always follow, stay still, or have discipline already, They will be asked to come back when they are older or get a refund. Our son is able to sit in class and do his work quietly, he is not distracting other children anymore and his report card showed all high marks including the note from the teacher stating he was doing excellent! This is not the same information we received on his previous report card. Our son loves going to Martial Arts USA. He looks forward to his lessons and applies what he has learned at home and at school. We couldn’t be prouder of him nor more pleased with the program at Martial Arts USA. We tried baseball, karate, swimming and soccer and John didn't have a passion for any of these. Last June, shy of 8, we met Master Kim at Martial Arts USA and John said Yes. It was not 3 weeks when I witnessed John doing a backflip on the mats. Being that John is most comfortable with his feet on the ground I was in AWE. Each week we saw progress such as jumping over mats, kicking over his head, and cart wheels, not to mention the new friends he made. It was one month when we committed to Junior Leadership, a 3 year program which was a stretch for our budget and we have no regret. One year later John is an Advanced Blue Belt, rides a bike, went zip lining in Julian, and hiked to the top of Vernal Falls in Yosemite without a complaint. We have seen many MIRACLES since we joined. John enjoys Movie, pizza nights whether or not he brings a friend. The discipline, values and commitment as well as the new families we have met has been life changing. I highly recommend you check it out. Less
