Temecula Salt Cave

I contacted Temecula Salt Cave with a simple question about whether artificial fragrances are used. The first message stated that there were no Febreze, plug ins or air sprays used anywhere. The second said that Febreze is in fact used in the bathroom, and that essential oils are actively diffused in the lobby and hallway. Those two explanations don’t match.Salt caves are meant to be safe spaces for people dealing with respiratory distress, chemical sensitivity, immune issues, nervous system dysregulation and chronic illness. Because of this, it is important to understand that both artificial fragrances and essential oils create harm for many visitors.Artificial fragrances contain volatile compounds that irritate the lungs, the sinuses, the immune system and the nervous system. These compounds linger in air for long periods of time and can trigger headaches, airway constriction, dizziness, respiratory irritation and inflammation. They can activate mast cells and overwhelm people with dysautonomia, MCS, MCAS, autoimmune illness or chronic neurological conditions. Many people who seek salt cave therapy come specifically to escape these triggers. For people with respiratory distress, the goal is to breathe clean, neutral air. Introducing any scented substance into a salt cave defeats its purpose. It reduces accessibility for the people who need the space the most and forces them into exposure that can lead to severe symptoms, anaphylactoid reactions or post exposure flares that last hours or days.A truly healing environment uses no fragrance at all. No perfumes, no scented cleaners, no diffused essential oils. Only pure air, salt and stillness. Creating a fragrance free environment allows the salt cave to be inclusive, safe and therapeutic for everyone seeking relief. The lack of honesty upfront, the shifting answers, and then being ghosted when the consequences were brought up shows a serious lack of care and accountability. Posting this so customers can make an informed decision before spending money in a place that adds fragrance into the environment.
