*I know this is long, but it has the details you want to know!* We rescued our 1-year-old pit bull, Boogie, in October of 2024, and we had little to no knowledge of his background other than he was once with a family but was found as a stray. While he was a very sweet boy, it was clear he had no training in his first home. He didn't know many commands, he constantly pulled on leash, he was very distracted out in public and would not listen, and with us living in the very busy oceanfront area it was very important for us to have a dog with good recall skills. We originally tried training services at a large chain pet retail store, which we quickly learned was not the best option for Boogie, because he needed a more one-on-one environment. This also wasn't very effective due to the time limitations, and we didn't feel very confident going home and implementing what we had learned. After that we knew we needed professional services, so we reached out and spoke with about 5-10 different dog training services in the area. Devon was hands down the one we felt most confident with. He asked about our struggles, and our goals, and what we want most out of training our dog, but he also tied in Boogie and his breed and what would work best for him. He was the only trainer that really got to know Boogie on the call, and not just us. He also gave us a bunch of useful tips and tricks on the call before we even booked his services! We decided to sign Boogie up for the day train program, where one day a week Boogie would go stay with Devon and progress in his training, and at the end of the day we would pick him up and learn what he learned. We chose this, because we wanted to learn and grow with Boogie as well. During his training sessions we received photos and videos of Devon and Boogie putting in so much work. Now, if you get anything from this review, please know that Devon is not just a dog trainer- he is also a PET OWNER TRAINER. After each day train, Devon spent so much time with us at pick up going over what he and Boogie did that day and made sure that we knew how to continue those skills and commands in the correct way. This makes us feel so much more confident as dog owners! He was also incredibly communicative and flexible in the schedule with vacations, sickness, weather, etc. It was clear we were working with a person who was passionate and understanding, and not just there for a check. It was very important for us to have a well-trained dog, that was still able to have fun and be playful, and that is exactly where we are today, and it doesn't even stop there. We will continue to stay in touch and use Devon for his boarding services forever, because we know Boogie loves him and spending time there, and we are incredibly confident our four-legged baby is well taken care of. There is also a post-training group where you can meet up with other dogs and owners once your training is complete, and we are incredibly excited for that. Overall, we cannot recommend Devon enough. I cried for two days thinking about “making her leave” or “how is she going to feel” or “ did I let her down” or “ shes going to another place”. The day Devon came over to pick up Scarlett, he sat on the floor with me and Scarlett. I had tears in my eyes. He completely understood and he was there for her! We sat and talked with Scarlett there. Through the 3 weeks and 2 days, I was able to visit her when they were training. He sent me videos and pics. While talking with a friend, she mentioned having her dog trained by Devon, so I found him on Facebook. After much thought, I called Devon. He came to my house so we could talk, and I shared my worries. He listened to every problem, every issue, and all my concerns. I decided to let Devon train and board Jack. It was one of the best decisions I could've made. Devon kept me informed of Jack’s progress with pictures, videos, and play-by-play descriptions of their training. It was obvious from the videos that Jack was having a great time with Devon and his family. While Jack was halfway through training, I fell and broke my hip. When I told Devon, he didn’t hesitate to reassure me that Jack had a safe space until I could physically care for him again. He wound up staying for a couplel more weeks, continuing his training as part of their family. Devon’s training is so individualized that he borrowed a walking cane so Jack would get used to walking slowly at a heel, making sure there were no surprises when he got home. It is very obvious that Devon takes pride in his work and wants to ensure that everyone involved with Jack understands how to “talk” with him. Devon came specifically to work one-on-one with my neighbor/dog walker, then came back to talk to my grandson who regularly helps care for Jack. He stayed over an hour each time to ensure everyone has a thorough understanding of how to handle commands. I know this is a long review, but I feel it’s important for people to know the whole story. Repeatedly! He was patient with my questions and is very generous sharing his knowledge with me, and on social media, providing tutorials and snippets of wisdom (often with a sense of humor). I’ve recommended him to anyone (perfect strangers, even) who mentions they have a concern about their dog’s behavior. Of course, the bottom line is the difference in Enzo after his 4-week board-and-train with Devon. My dog has been through almost a year of training through a service dog training program for disabled veterans and I went with him to each of those classes. I am not at all unfamiliar with training dogs, however I was having issues with two specific tasks I needed my dog to do. I contacted them and Devon came over and did a free assessment of my dog and the issues I was having. During the free assessment he corrected the issue and my dog has never repeated the behavior since. I then had Devon come in and do 4 one hour in home sessions with my dog. In those 4 hours Devon taught me how to correct the issues and my dog has not repeated either issue since. I can’t speak highly enough of his advanced training knowledge. In the initial call, before we committed to his services, he offered helpful advice out of a genuine desire to help us be safe and happy with our puppy. Moreover, we found Devon’s approach - to help us understand the “how” and “why” as opposed to just do/perform - suited for our long-term understanding and training of our puppy. WORKING WITH DEVON If there were more stars to give, we would do so. Devon was absolutely incredible; he was hands-on, so well informed, and always accessible. If we had questions during our late evening training sessions, he would reply not only quickly but also with newly recorded videos to help us visualize his instructions/guidance. We started sending him summary videos of our puppy’s training sessions, and he always provided timely encouragement and feedback. He was extremely flexible with scheduling, and accommodating to our changing needs at times. In difficult or frustrating moments, Devon was validating and reassuring. He made the process easy - for both of us and our puppy. RESULTS Our puppy has never had a safety issue (ie eating socks) since working with Devon. More so, he is trained off leash (responds to “come” regardless of distance or external stimulus). He also responds to long-distance “stay/place”, and walks alongside us when off-leash. Most importantly, our puppy is excited to work with us and listen to us. We also, through the process, better understand the balance of activities and approach to take with our puppy. We are a safer and happier family because of Devon. Less

My 14 year old daughter is able to walk her with ease on the Huckleberry trail and many people have commented how well behaved she was. A local popular dog training business told us after only having her only for 4 hours that they could not train her. Devon took his time and accomplished training her. Best decision we ever made.
