My husband and I came to Mike feeling extremely frustrated and lost about how to handle our dog’s behavioral issues—especially with a newborn on the way. Our 1.5-year-old rescue, Theo, has been anxious and skittish since the day we brought him home at eight weeks old. We had previously tried a board-and-train program when he was a few months old with a national chain, hoping to build a foundation of obedience and ease his anxiety/reactivity. While that gave us some basic commands, the strategies didn’t work well for Theo. His anxiety and aggression only worsened—he would bolt and hide in random rooms, appear fearful, and sometimes slip into bizarre “moods” where his eyes looked glazed and he would growl or even bite if we got too close. These incidents became increasingly frequent, which was heartbreaking because Theo is otherwise a very loving, playful dog who has never had issues with other dogs or people. Other challenges included Theo barking frequently throughout the night waking us up 2-4 times a night, unable to walk on a leash without being dragged, etc.Taking the leap to work with Mike has been one of the best decisions we’ve made. After just two sessions, we’ve already seen huge improvements. His practical, no-nonsense training methods have been remarkably effective. Mike is incredibly knowledgeable, not only teaching us strategies, but also explaining the nuances of when and how to apply them, and why the order of strategies matters. His insights about Theo’s attempts at dominance and how to correct them have been a game-changer.Mike’s approach has been far more effective than anything we tried before, producing faster results than we ever expected. He provided a clear training plan that boosted our confidence, and every session leaves us feeling more equipped and hopeful. He has also emphasized the importance of mentally working our dog through training, rather than relying on physical activity alone. The intensive effort is paying off: we’ve had no biting incidents, Theo is sleeping through the night, seeming tired from his training, and his obedience has improved significantly with commands like sit, down, place, and heel. We’ve also started working on reducing Theo’s reactivity to sounds and noises that previously triggered fight-or-flight responses, and we’re eager to continue seeing progress. Finally, Mike truly cares about both the dogs and their owners. Something that really stood out about Mike is how seriously he took our concerns about Theo’s aggression when other people (trainers, vets) have not done so. Our dog would present as very friendly to others which made it hard to describe how much trouble we were having. Lastly, Mike checks in between sessions, gives thoughtful recommendations on supplies (collars, leashes, etc.), and even goes out of his way to give us extra time when needed. We are so grateful for the progress we’ve seen already and couldn’t recommend Mike more highly! Thank you so much!
