After being diagnosed with scoliosis as an adolescent, I didn’t think much about it until my mid-40s, when I woke up one morning unable to walk or bend over to get dressed due to intense pain. As a busy mom of four, this was both confusing and frustrating, especially since I hadn’t had any obvious injuries (aside from a couple of broken ribs from a fall while skiing a few years prior).Over the next several months, I saw my chiropractor and PCP, who referred me to physical therapy and a pain management specialist. I tried PT, NSAIDs, and injections, but none of them provided lasting relief.Feeling overwhelmed and scared, I did some research and came across Spine Strong Physical Therapy. Although I had never heard of the Schroth Method, I contacted Reid and that turned out to be, without a doubt, the best healthcare decision I’ve ever made. From my very first visit, I knew I was in the right place.Reid’s expertise, ability to communicate without intimidation and genuine care puts me at ease. He listens actively, connects in a personable way, holds space for whatever I bring to the table and makes sure I always feel like I leave each visit with a clear plan. He has also encouraged me to seek out complimentary providers to round out my support system, many of whom I would not have without his support.Due to pain I had taken a year off from curling, an activity that my husband and I enjoy together, but have been able to return to since working with Reid! In addition, I have lost 40 pounds and been much more active doing things that I love such as skiing, hiking and just enjoying the outdoors as well as trying some new activities! Daily movement, exercise and self care have become important parts of my life since working with Reid and things that I can’t imagine living without now.Working with Reid has honestly been life changing and in more ways than I could have anticipated. In addition to teaching me about my curvatures, he has developed an exercise program specific to my body and its needs, changing it up each time some new challenge arises. It is never boring working with Reid, sometimes I never know what to expect! He has introduced me to different strength training exercises, modalities and movements that challenge my body yet are manageable. Reid’s belief in my ability, along with his unwavering confidence, patience, positivity and motivation empowers me to be confident and patient as I continue to learn to trust and believe in myself and my body.I am discovering that scoliosis still presents challenges sometimes but Reid helps guide and ground me equally, if not more, when I need to back off a little bit or reprioritize things for a while and then get back at it. I am so thankful to have his support and guidance along this journey.I would without hesitation recommend working with Reid to anyone considering it.
