This book has opened up my thinking from feeling lost to seeing there is more going on than defiance in my son. He is dealing with so much more that I imagined and now I have the compassion and am beginning to understand how to be patient and show him that I am safe and not just "on him" all of the time.

I have been listening to the audio book on repeat, especially chapter 3 the one about locked in and emotionally available. I love when the teen boys share their own thoughts and feelings. It adds such a very real connection to the message being shared that it brings tears to my eyes. One navigational piece of feedback I’d give is providing a way to see chapter names and corresponding time stamps within the book, so the user can navigate to a particular section of the audiobook, rather than dialing through hoping to remember where you left off or where you want to pick back up with a certain chapter.

This has taught me so much and I am now unlearning the things that haven’t helped us as we navigate the journey of parenting 3 teenage boys. It is making a difference to how I parent and I am starting to see a new connection being built. From a place of desperation, I can see some light and new ways creating a new connection and building new trust. I am so thankful that I purchased this book.
