First time on a board and Fozzy was wonderful. From recommending the best day and time for a good swell, to following up and answering questions, and helping us know where to park. The land lesson was simple and quick but not rushed, making sure we knew what to do once were on the water. We did a couples lesson and both caught some good waves several times. Back at it again as a repeat customer. My 8 year old son Bodhi charged some big north shore waves under the skillful watch and coaching of Chris. Chris was an expert guide picking the right spot and putting safety first. Not only did he make sure my son had an epic session, he also went on a hunt the entire day prior to find a grom board suited for my son! My husband and 7 year old son took lessons from Fozzy! We called the night before and he was able to get us in the next morning. Fozzy was extremely friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. My son is very cautious, but he and I were both relaxed with Fozzy and he had him standing on the board, surfing in no time. We bought the photo package too, which had some great takes on it. His prices were very reasonable. I am pregnant and could not participate, so he brought me a chair, umbrella and even some sunscreen! Came to Oahu on vacation, wanted to take a surfing lesson while in Hawaii. We called Fozzy and got a lesson booked. Meat him at the beach location he sent us. super nice guy. He had the surfboard ready, showed me some techniques on how to get up when the big wave comes. practice those then went out in the ocean. When learning the surfboard is so big it takes a lot of paddling. Fozzy did help with giving lots of little boast. He was good at helping me catch the waves. had plenty of chances to ride waves. Chris “Fozzy” Foster is not only a genuinely talented instructor, but he uses his many years of competition and coaching experience to create a welcoming environment that takes what could otherwise be a very intimidating sport and makes it approachable for entry level surfers as well as more than capable of helping those with more advanced skills. I booked a 2-hour solo and loved every second of it. Chris offered detailed explain actions and feedback specific to each wave (yes, being completely new the the sport I was able to “ride” multiple waves). The equipment used felt very quality and I was even provided a rash guard (thankfully, I would have been worse for wear without). Also, north shore might sound intimidating to newbies but with Fozzy’s approach I was able to check off a lifelong bucket list item. It’s still surging so be aware it’s not a walk in the park on a paved path but if you have some grit you’ll make it just fine and Chris will make you feel right at home. Overall, a fantastic and truly unforgettable experience and would recommend to anyone looking to beat the crowds, hit the north shore, and have a great experience with a rad instructor. Less

Just by sheer luck, we were asking some locals about a good surfing school/instructor up around the North Shore, and Fozzy's Surf School was recommended He did not disappoint! My two sons and their cousin all joined Fozzy for a 2 hour lesson, it started off great, and ended even better. Fozzy and his buddy Nakoa were EXACTLY what we were looking for. While I'm positive he would improve and already seasoned surfer, Chris was awesome with the beginner kids (between 10-14), and they picked it up right away. It's a shame you can't give more than 5 stars, and next time we come back to the island, we will revisit for another session! Thanks Fozzy! Less

My 16-yr old and I just had a 2-hour class with Chris. He was amazing, on and offshore. We have taken many surf classes before, from New Jersey to Hawaii and Fozzy is hands down the best. We booked a 2 hour semi-private class (2:1) with Chris and we aren't satisfactory about the experience. Let me tell you the background, pros and cons in this experience.Background: I never surfed before, but I am generally fit and can can rock climbing V8 boulder. I ride the wave on my second attempt, but I quit after my 4th attempt because I felt tired and painful.Pros:1. Chris is very proactive in communicating. He reached out to us through text message before the session and send us the video 1 hour after surfing.2. Chris is hardworking. He took each of us in turn to the wave frequently. He didn't stop. He swim pretty fast.Cons:1. Not much learning other than following Chris's command to stand up when wave comes. I am far from being able to surf by myself. I was not told how to recognize the good wave and how to turn the board to follow the wave. I was expected to just follow him and his command.2. I felt offended. His way of speaking is sending commands. It wasn't pleasant. My wife initially put some sunscreen on her leg, and he just shut "wipe it off!", he later explained that it is because that can cause the board slippery. I understood, but still, the way he speaks make us uncomfortable. Maybe he is not in good mood today, not sure.3. I didn't expect that I would get injured. I felt chest pain when laying on the board for a long time which cause me to stop the learning early. My feet got scratched by the rock on the bottom when I was hit by several waves. I wasn't told about these before going into the water. Though not a big hurt, it is inappropriate. Instructor should let the students understand the underlying risks.4. Regarding injury, Chris doesn't show compassion. He just told me that these are normal but he didn't even check my injury. Well, thit is inappropriate.This is a long review. I want to provide a more comprehensive view or different angle for future participants. Also, it can work as a feedback for Chris. I had high hope in the beginning, but sorry, I was a bit disappointed in the end. Less

Me and my boyfriend took a lesson with Chris and had the BEST time. Chris is super friendly and down to earth and clearly loves what he does. We both stood up on our boards within the first two tries and didn’t stop for hours. My son Andrew and I absolutely loved our surf lesson with Fozzy! I’ll be honest - I’m a 52-year-old who had never surfed before. Chris had me standing on the board and riding a wave by my 3rd attempt - way exceeding my expectations (honestly, I was not expecting to even be able to stand on the board my first time surfing!). By the end of the lesson, I was able to ride several waves standing up on the board - 🤙!!! My son Andrew did even better than me, standing up on the board and riding a wave on his first attempt (it was his first time surfing also!).
