A South Austin gem in an unassuming spot with uncommonly good coachesAlloy Personal Training is exactly what I was looking for: my new gym. The high-intensity ones were not working for me, personal training was amazing and gave me a great foundation, but I needed something more. A gym close to home where I (a middle-aged woman, a few months into a new health journey, with aches/pains) could get into small group classes, where room for modifications was accepted without question and someone was there to make sure I was doing the exercises safely. That's exactly what I found here. The small class format (max 6 people) is so helpful. It means the coaches actually see you. When an exercise is hard or isn’t working, they come and provide coaching so that you get the most out of it without risking injury (even if that means providing you with a modification). Another big bonus: the workouts are fully programmed, change each week, and focus on strength and building endurance. I never have to think about what I'm doing. I just show up and do it. That alone removes a huge barrier.Because it's a small format, they know your history, your limitations, and your goals. All three coaches (John, Lorenzo, and Whitney) have the ability to see notes on each member, so you're never starting from scratch or re-explaining why you need to modify an exercise. That consistency matters enormously. And they honor the privacy each person wants, so they'll help you but won't air it to the group.John is the manager and has built something truly special here. His leadership sets the tone for the whole culture: encouraging, supportive, attentive, and while the coaches will challenge you, they'll never be overly pushy. Lorenzo and Whitney are equally wonderful. Each of them brings a different energy but the same quality of training and commitment to making sure you're getting the most out of every session. The members range from their 30s to their 70s, each with their own goals. Mine is strength training and longevity, not a number on a scale, not a race. This gym gets that. There's zero judgment, just quiet encouragement and shared effort. One thing I especially love: they celebrate the milestones that actually matter. Your first workout. Your first 30 days. The small wins that show you're building something real. It means a lot to have coaches who recognize that showing up consistently is the win. They also host social events to build community and get involved in local wellness events. I brought a family member to one and it was wonderful to connect with the coaches outside the gym, plus get exposed to new wellness activities (compression and cryotherapy, for example). If you're looking for an intense, high-octane workout culture, this probably isn't your place, and honestly, that's the point. This is a gym full of everyday people: middle-aged professionals, parents juggling a lot, folks managing real physical limitations, all wanting to build lasting health without the over-the-top intensity. If that sounds like you, don't overthink it. Just call them. One last thing...this place is CLEAN. The coaches regularly wipe down the equipment and mats and keep cleaning cloths nearby. So, that's provides peace of mind for me. :)
