We had a new furnace /boiler installed in October 2019 and while pricing out the job we were informed by one of the companies that our old terra cotta chimney liner was not the correct liner for a new furnace. They informed me that if we didn't install a new stainless steel liner we would have to sign a waiver releasing them from any responsibility apparently terra cotta was used years ago for coal furnaces, and like terra cotta plant pots over time they begin to breakdown, splinter, crack, and disintegrate, causing the fumes to leak into the walls of your home. James arrived on time for our free consultation and explained what he was going to do to complete his inspection. He needed to go up on the roof and inspect the chimney area, he took several photos to show us what needed to be repaired, then he was in the basement inspecting the furnace / boiler, using flashlights and mirrors he showed us the poor condition of the current liner. James didn't have to use a hard sell during our consultation, he just told us the facts, came in, check things out, and showed us all the weakened and damaged areas of the chimney and current liner. He explained what needed to be done, presented us with a statement breaking down the job installation process and their fees and we set up an installation date for their earliest available opening. You couldn't ask for more! They explain everything to you and tell you what is necessary vs. things that can wait a little. Very professional, very knowledgeable, and willing to explain it to you. Once that was detected, he went to basement to inspect the actual chimney interior and flue. Being an old house, the mortar was crumbling and brick lining was coming apart. A detailed explanation was given on solutions and he was great with the explanation. A cost estimate was immediately provided showing detailed info on installing a one piece lifetime stainless steel flue from the top down (3 story house with attic), new concrete block chimney blocks, a concrete top cap and a stainless steel rain cap. I was pleasantly surprised on the cost for the entire project and gave the go ahead. The job was done on the day it was promised and completed in about 6 hours, including a spotless clean up of exterior and basement.
