Westover Taco

We're picky about Mexican food, as the best that we eat is usually at our own house, having Mexican roots and having lived in Mexico. The restaurant is new; the first visit was perfect; the second, one item was forgotten (the waiter compensated for it) and the tortillas were cold on the first round. Our favorite tacos were shrimp; our friend loved the ground meat tacos on a crispy tortillas. And while a churro doughnut sounds like a peculiar dessert, it delivers in terms of flavor. We'll keep going back as long as it is as good as it is. A new, fresh, bright space! We have been back several times and here is my update. The good, again: The shrimp tacos. They are not stingy with the shrimp and they don't overpower them with spices. Avocado atop those tacos makes them sublime. Unfortunately, one time that we went, they were presented without avocado: A huge disappointment. They should have told us! They reduced the price by thirty cents, but it doesn't make up for lack of quality. We accidentally ordered the fish tacos the other day. I say accidentally, because we arrived so very hungry that I misspoke. The waiter offered to exchange them for shrimp tacos when I asked about the avocado, but it was my mistake, so we ate them. I found the fish overly fried and loaded with French dressing or maybe it was chipotle mayonnaise. In any case, it didn't augment the experience. I scraped off what I could. The restaurant could improve by offering homemade salsas at the table. The bottled ones are mediocre and only the green habanera remains of the two habaneras: The red one has disappeared. The chorizo was way too salty, according to my husband. Finally, service is very uneven. The first time we went, shortly after they opened, it was wonderful. On another occasion, the employee told us the only way that we could order was via their app. The last time, the employee came to our table. In any case, apparently the crunchy ground meat tortilla is good. The shrimp tacos have remained so. We'll continue to go back until they disappoint. That is when we abandon a restaurant altogether.April 16, 2026 Update: The restaurant is converting to a women's sports bar, with a new menu and owner. I didn't have my glasses with me and I couldn't read it very well, as the print is smaller than the previous menu. I do see that the prices are up, and I wonder if they will still be having three dollar tacos on Tuesdays. Unfortunately, we were unable to sample the new offerings.
