Phoenix Cards

My son and I checked out casual Riftbound night at Phoenix Cards last night, and I think we may have just found our new home base.It happened to be 2v2, which we had never tried before. For $10 each, we got two Spiritforged booster packs each up front instead of the usual “pack per win” format. This was much more learner/novice player friendly. That alone felt like solid value. Then, mid-games, someone behind the counter, owner, manager, not totally sure but clearly one of the good guys, handed out an extra Origins pack to each of us just because. No fanfare. No catch. Just, “Here you go.”That’s the kind of surprise that sticks with you.Even better than the value was the vibe. Card shops can sometimes drift into hyper-competitive territory, and to be honest sometimes you want that. I’m sure there were some serious players in the mix. But everyone we played with was welcoming, and fun to be around. People handled losing without sulking, and winning without gloating. That balance is rarer than it should be.As a dad playing alongside my son, that matters a lot to me.If you’re within about 30 minutes, I’d absolutely recommend giving Phoenix Cards a shot. Unless you’re specifically hunting for a hyper-competitive grind-it-out environment to prep for nationals or worlds, this is the kind of shop where you can enjoy the game, enjoy the people, and walk out feeling good about the night. We’ll definitely be back.
