I cannot recommend Martin McPhilimey and his Breath Science program highly enough. Martin’s teaching has fundamentally elevated how I deliver my work as a Breath Science Practitioner. The depth, clarity, and rigour of the material has strengthened not only my understanding of breath physiology and nervous system regulation, but my confidence in applying it skilfully and responsibly with real people in real life. The program covers an exceptional breadth of topics, including functional breathing mechanics, carbon dioxide tolerance, chemoreceptor sensitivity, nervous system regulation, sleep and circadian rhythm, stress and recovery, and how breathing patterns influence cognition, emotion, and behaviour. Importantly, this is not taught in isolation everything is contextualised within real human lives and real nervous systems. What truly sets this program apart is that it is genuinely up to date. Martin continually refines and refreshes the content in line with current research and clinical understanding, rather than relying on outdated models or oversimplified breathwork narratives. The science is taught with precision, but always translated into practical, ethical application.I completed the one-to-one program over several months while working full time, and Martin was an exceptional teacher throughout. He is clear, grounded, and deeply invested in ensuring the learning translates into safe and effective practice. His ability to explain complex physiology, challenge assumptions, and support clinical reasoning is outstanding. This training is not about pushing intensity or chasing altered states. It’s about understanding how breath actually works in the body, how it interacts with the nervous system, and how it can be used to support regulation, resilience, and capacity in everyday life.I would highly recommend this program to anyone working or intending to work, with people who need real, evidence-based support, and who want a science-led framework that genuinely holds up in practice.
