Globe Works

After about 15 years away from the gym, I decided it was finally time to dust off the trainers and get back into some form of fitness. The thought of joining a large commercial gym wasn't particularly appealing, so in March 2026 I started looking for somewhere with a smaller, more personal approach. A bit of internet searching led me to Globe Works Personal Training in Wingrave. After an initial discussion and assessment, I signed up, admittedly with a little apprehension. Thankfully, those nerves disappeared pretty quickly. The semi-private sessions, usually around four people plus a trainer, turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. There are no queues for equipment, no standing around wondering how on earth a bit of equipment works, and no intimidating crowds. Just a welcoming environment with people of all ages working towards their own goals.Since joining, I've learned a huge amount about different training methods, how to use the equipment properly, and how to get the most from each workout. The team of three trainers have been fantastic throughout, taking the time to understand my goals and regularly adapting the sessions to strength train all areas of the body. After four months of attending, the difference has been huge. Before I started, getting up from the sofa required careful planning, a bit of momentum, and a collection of grunts that could probably have been translated into a foreign language. I genuinely thought these noises were just part of the middle-aged starter pack! But within weeks, they started disappearing. My strength was coming back so gradually I barely noticed it, and as an extra bonus, the scales are heading in the right direction too as I'm successfully losing weight. My flexibility and mobility have improved significantly, and I can genuinely feel myself standing and walking with much better posture. At the beginning, I would get out of breath quite quickly and could really feel my heart working overtime whenever I pushed myself. Over the months, however, my fitness has improved dramatically. The best way I can describe it is that I've found an extra gear. My heart rate still rises during a workout, as it should, but it now feels much more controlled, allowing me to work harder without feeling breathless.Looking back, joining Globe Works was one of the best decisions I've made. The support, encouragement and expertise of the trainers, combined with the friendly atmosphere, have made returning to fitness enjoyable rather than intimidating. I only wish I'd done it a few years sooner!
