Hands down some of the nicest people I have ever met! Instructors are super helpful and knowledgeable.
Very helpful and respectful on the phone. But I'm just curious if there is wrestling or not
Visited from our home gym in Winston Salem (NC). Very receptive and warm to our family. Made it to their open mat on Saturday. Great experience and rolls with good people. Recommend it 100% and we'll be back when we visit family in town. It was safe for our sons, female cousin and my wife. Everyone recieved help and supervision. Thanks!... More

Really negative environment, definitely would not reccomend especially after I was told only certain "political opinions' were accepted here.
I have been at this gym since it opened at its current location. Athens Juijitsu has been my home for almost 7 years and they have been absolutely amazing! The coaches care for all of their students and give them the best that they have. This has got to be the most family friendly gym around! I look forward to all the years to come with this gym!... Phenomenal school, considering the location and affordability, the training is saturated with a large number of skilled instructors. Highly recommend training here.... More

NOTE: I was not payed, instigated, or forced to write this review or anything of what I wrote by an person. This review is my true personnel opinion and experience at this property. I visited Athens Jiu Jitsu in TN today at their open mat as it was harmonious with my schedule. I am at the time of submitting this review a competitive Yonkyu (Blue belt) in Kodokan Judo and a blue belt in Jiu Jitsu. I live rolled with 4 gentlemen today at the training center and it was a wonderful experience! Respectful attitude towards me AND THEMSELVES! From the little time I was there (1hr~) I observed a clean organized dojo, they even had an O-zone machine (search it up for information) the owner said was used around every other day, good variety of students and instructors. Regarding techniques and safety: they* were controlled with their movements and did not "crank" joint submissions. Much less filled by Ego compared to similar "BJJ gyms". Regarding level of skill being taught and used at Athens jiu jitsu TN: From my only competitive blue belt skill there is only so much I can say but I will provide what is true and useful: the "Professors" (Black belts+) were humble, and upfront. I had the pleasure of live rolling against one of their black belts. I definitely gained quite a lot of good experience rolling with him, thinking methodically, acting and reacting to each others attacks and defenses in a new environment against someone I've never gone against before. From what the owner explained to me they have had this location for 7 years, it looks to be developing well and has a good structure as an environment and dojo. If I was able to go to some of their actual classes and see the rest of how they operate and more of their community I would definitely have more to say, although I was visiting the area. Everyone has their own opinion on what a five-star establishment would be to them, I not super rough but I do think to have a five star rating would need a few more things that would level up this place, however it may not be what the owner and majority of the community is interested in: Be very attentive to how the training center is set up, to optimize the efficiency of the training and effectiveness. for example: adjust the length of the live rounds, when I was there each round was 5 minutes, maybe a shorter time like 3 minutes or 4 would be more effective to condition each students mind to adjust faster and have multiple rounds with different people each time. adjust how things are taught, the wording, take downs vs throws, little things will have a huge impact, the philosophy, how the straining center is led, etc. I would absolutely train there again. it was a free training as I was visiting for the first time. Thank you guys for the rolls, you all helped me tremendously improve my techniques and martial arts in general. - Dax J * the gentlemen I live rolled with. Less

My oldest daughter the second day had a girl try to force her to kiss her and the instructors were completely oblivious to it because they just let them run around all class why BOTH instructors taught the boys side and completely ignored the girls.(And NO this wasn't some playful thing my daughter was adamantly saying no over and over and having to hold this girl back!) Thankfully my daughter was able to stop this but we will never be bringing them back here. I can't imagine if I was a parent that dropped my kid off there and this or worse could have happened to them because they weren't paying attention. Less
Great place to train! I've been training here 6 years and love it.
Great gym, friendly people, good training. There are some other classes now too, striking, take downs, yoga, HIIT training to name a few.
Great facility and instruction. I was visiting the area and asked if I could drop in for a session. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. You know it was good when you feel like you fell down a flight of stairs the next day. I'm hoping to come back once more before we keep traveling on.... More
