I absolutely loved my first 2 experiences with this salon. I am so relieved to finally find a hair salon that is passionate about natural hair of all types. I love that they offer a consultation before scheduling an actual appointment. Lary was so knowledgeable and took her time to explain the process. For my actual appointment, I arrived a bit early and was taken to the chair immediately. Jalissa is amazing. She was also very knowledgeable, and she explained every step of the process. She explained how to use the products and went into depth about using the detangling tool during the washing and conditioning step. Already added to cart, lol Lary did my cut and I was prepared for her to cut a lot but she took her time and only cut what was truly needed. I absolutely love the results and the shape she created. Jalissa did an amazing job with styling she helped me to understand my curl formation and what would work best for my hair type. Overall I love the fact that eventhough they are using mostly the same products, they taught me how to use them for my specific hair type and needs. However, I do wish I would have read the reviews before I went; I would have made it a point to tell tell them don’t cut my hair. I expected a trim but I got a hair cut for a style that wasn’t ran by me before hand. I didn’t realize how much of my hair got cut until afterwards. My hair was cut 3 different times, once when I first got in the chair while it was dry, 2nd time was after it was washed, then 3rd she cut a little more after I had been under the hair dryer. She did ask after she was done if the length was okay, but at that point it was too late anyway so I said I guess. I had split ends but, not 5-6 inches worth. I expressed to the young lady that I had a trim a few weeks prior. I did want volume but not at the expense of that much of my hair length. The first thing I said that I wanted for my hair during the consultation, is that I wanted long full hair as my goal. It took me a long time to grow my hair. I did say cut what “needed” to be cut, meaning split ends, a trim. Not CUT and style my hair. I really just needed tips on how to keep it healthy. I’m still stunned every time I look in the mirror by how much of my hair was cut. The front of my hair was cut so short it looks like a bang. If you are a new customer you have to go in for a consultation first which is $71. You’re asked several questions and then you’re given basics tips that you could have gotten by Googling or going on YouTube. They make you book another appointment just to come back and actually get it done. I spent over $271 and I was extremely disappointed by the results. Update: She cut 3 years of hair growth unnecessarily and I can’t get over it. When I look in the mirror it angers me so much! Less

The stylists are generous with the information they teach because the goal is to empower the client to be able to use this same technique in their own hair at home. The cons are that the hydration lock in gel, though it is effective, can cause break outs when it comes in contact with the skin. So be careful. Another con is that the stylist was heavy on the trim. I asked for a trim and bang cut, but got a trim for the bang and a cut cut at the back. It was a whole different style of cut than what I asked for. I tried to explain to her 2 weeks prior someone did my hair (cut, washed-finger detangled bf using detangling brush) and it was very very very little shedding and she proceeded to tell me that its bc I waited 2 weeks (and that it depended on my hair be covered at night, etc... ) to wash my hair instead of one week. Overall, I feel the salon truly does not care about nurturing hair just making the hair look nice and getting clients in and out bc I dont understand why she couldn't have taken the time to go slower and handle my hair w more care. I got that feeling from my first visit, due to multiple people washing my hair during my new client consult-Kuran and Lary (accountability is in question). The only person that really took her time with detangling my hair and making me feel extremely comfortable via discussing my hair was LARY (the person I least expected since she doesn't have 4c curls). I actually asked Lary to do my hair this day, but they operate as a team and I ended up getting Judith and the Shampoo person. I felt very uncomfortable trying to explain my perspective and felt very bullied into it being "my fault" that all of hair was "shedded". I've only been there a couple of times and this was my last. I tried to refrain from writing such a negative review but Im really having a hard time sleeping because I put in so much work into my hair(trying to research good natural haircare stylists) only to have soooo much of my hair ripped away in one day. I just don't want anyone to have to go through this same experience. It's actually 4:30a in the morning.@Owners response—I only visited one time prior and only came back hoping that Lary would do my hair and also to learn the technique a little better. She was more occupied discussing salon business with stylists doing chores across the salon. And I have a terrible cut that doesn’t make sense as a result. She actually barely did anything...I have uneven areas... she didn’t even bother to trim all of my ends. If you have some sort of a curly hair emergency they may be worth it but honestly I liked my curls better the way I had them when I went in then when I left...& I did not feel at all that the $190 I spent there was anywhere near worth it nor that I was a valued client at all. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. I was truly botched my this place. The first red flag was that certain hairstyles could not be booked (ie a blowout), however the salon was empty when I arrived for my appointment and most of the staff were sitting around with only 3 customers including myself. I made the mistake of asking my hairdresser to assist in taking down a quarter of my braids that were still in there was no water, conditioner, or oil applied to my braids she simply yanked on my hair in the most violent and painful way possible. I having no experience in cosmetics was able to take down and detangle most my head the night before with any pain yet at my hairdresser yanked away with with a small tooth comb and said nothing while I jerked and recoiled in pain. The hairdresser had the nerve to comment that I was tender-headed later on yet in the moment made NO attempt to be gentler or inflict less pain. I was made to sign a contract upon arrival which said they were not liable for chemical damage which I had no problem with however there were clauses in the contract that stated that one must pay in full even if they do not like the end result and that the hairdresser knows what is best and that one must follow their recommendations with this in mind I was afraid to protest my hair being cut while in curls and as a result lost about 5 inches in an attempt to "trim dead ends" and parts of my hair that looked too straight. I went from hair down my back to hair that just touches my shoulders which would be fine if I had a choice in the matter but I did not. Furthermore the "special hydra curl" product they use is overpriced Ecco Gel (I asked the stylist and she confirmed that it was essentially the same). Their curling process is applying ecco gel like a perm and curling it instead of smoothing it. Not remotely with $165 barely worth $65. This salon is overpriced and overrated everyone leaves with the same hairstyle, which may be all they know how to do. To say I am dissatisfied is an understatement. After I week I rinsed whatever they put in my hair out and was overwhelmed with a smell of chlorine while washing my hair I do not know what was done to my hair all I know is I truly hated it and and have warned everyone I know to stay away. P.S. locking the salon door at all times on sample road in coral springs down the street from cshs is truly an elitist practice an unnecessary there is no serious threat of crime in the area and if it is an attempt at exclusivity it truly fails and speaks volumes about how they view themselves as not a community establishment but the community at large. In summary I would sooner shave my head than ever step foot in that salon again. Update: The trim they did on my hair was extremely uneven and as a result I had to cut off 2 more inches at a responsible salon. PLEASE AVOID THIS PLACE. Edit: However this salon attempts to frame my review as positive or lacking proper context it does not negate the experiences I documented in this review. I regretfully went to hydrabar and left feeling horrible about my hair. As they said they have loyal clients that will stand by them and that's fine but it doesn't invalidate what I went through or the fact that my review is negative. I visited Hydra Bar with high expectations; it came highly recommended by my sister, who witnessed a patron’s hair of this Salon while on vacation. My sis knows I like wearing my natural hair texture. Well, I was confident this was the place for me to get defined curls it never happened. Lisbeth focused on sharing comments about patrons thinking she cannot do black textured hair; this thought never crossed my mind into my hair process. She stated, “ My hair is damaged and suggested I cut it off.” ok fine then she hydrates my hair at shampoo bowl while she explains how to use the product. now it’s time to define hair, at this point, its gone wrong. The hydra gel is not working and she is working my hair between her fingers to get defined curls. So, I share a photo of my natural textured hair to give her a sense of what I want. This obviously tripped her mind from there she quit doing the defined curls process and stuck me under a dryer. Still no curls by this time I am uncomfortable 🥵 the total amount paid was around 154 itemized $95 defined curls, cut $36, curl formula 23.99 I suppose she dropped the amount for my lesson. If stylist failed to do the defined curls, reimburse me the $95. My intentions were to make this my permanent salon. Not!!!!! I lost time and money and their promise to do defined curls. I came in thinking I was getting a Diva Cut and walked out looking like a wet poodle. To be honest with you, a lot of my natural friends and coworkers were planning on going to give Hydra Bar a try but ever since they seen how bad my hair turned out, they all changed their mind. And I really don’t blame them. This was definitely not worth trying or spending $165 of my hardworking money. Less

Check out their instagram (hydra bar). They specialize in natural hair (using their signature hydration method). Your hair on the first day is crunchy but is expected to look and feel better as the style gets older. I would have preferred more natural ingredients in their signature gel (curl former), but I guess for it to do what it's suppose to do (lock in moisture/water molecules) it has to have the ingredients it currently has, but I'm not a fan of it. You may have a different opinion. Natural hair is sometimes a trial and error process.They list the ingredients on their website (in the shop/store tab) and on Amazon. They use their signature hydra curl former on site and it can also be purchased on their website and Amazon. The store seems to be a black owned business :) and the owner is a curly hair woman. She's also on YouTube. The reviews (mixed) on Amazon are quite helpful if you base your decision making off of other people's experiences with a product. You can watch reviews on YouTube as well. The salon although small, is not cluttered, looks great, very clean and organized. They salon is conveniently located with ample parking (i went during the week). You can easily miss the salon as there is only signage on the door/window. They need something bigger outside. They go by appointment only, however, you can walk in set an appointment or book an appointment online. If you have to cancel an appointment, be nice and call 48 hrs in advance. The hydration specialist does encourage you to take the hydration class, but it is expensive ( Over $100). The exact price is on their website. They provide a breakdown of services and prices for each service on their website as well. They don't force you to take the class but emphasize the benefits. If you are completely new to taking care of your natural hair after it is styled during the week, and you can afford it, then do it, but if you've had natural hair for over a number of yrs, you know your hair and can navigate YouTube, you can watch other women use their product and see the unbiased results after use. The owner also has a video of how she uses the curl former which is VERY helpful. Their stylist is really nice, she listens and she's patient. If you have very thin hair and want a hairstyle that has volume, be realistic. Walk with several pics (front, side, back) of what you want (cut, dye, trim, etc) and discuss your concerns with the stylist before you start service. No hidden fees, they are upfront with their process and prices and you can get a breakdown depending on what you'd like prior to booking. Less
