Solid StructuresRecently I decided it was time to replace our old wood deck that had been original with our Chesapeake home from nearly 40 years ago. I vetted a number of contractors and was lucky enough to come across Solid Structures that is based out of Virginia Beach. After having interviewed several other contractors, it became obvious to me that Solid Structures was clearly the best option. Their salesman assigned to us was Aaron Robbins. He was great. He was knowledgeable, patient and very flexible until we decided on what we wanted.Solid Structures also has an excellent project management team that coordinated everything from getting the old deck demolished completely, to designing a new one, and building it from scratch. What Aaron didn’t tell me was that their crew weren’t just carpenters, but rather artisans and often times magicians who could create exactly what I wanted. They were incredible.Carlos was the foreman in charge of the project, assisted his crew of three, Jose Benitez, Luis and Williams. Throughout the project there were several really nice surprises that I never suspected possible. Some were subtle, some actually pretty big. One example is that they do a lot of work that Carlos calls “picture framing” that adds considerable beauty and artistry to the project through symmetry and absolutely perfect mitering on many corners. From the original design, I had requested benches be built around the perimeter. When they were complete, they were WAY beyond anything I ever would have imagined. Perfect solid construction, comfortable and artistically done.The construction of their decks is not at all what you would think. The deck is about 14x28 feet, but being a residential job, I would have thought they would use a less and lighter weight material, but that was never the case. Everything, absolutely everything, was built to last pretty much forever.The deck was made out of Trex which is extremely nice in and of itself, but all of the framing below used a lot of large dimension lumber, always heavily secured with nails and screws tying it all together. The footers for all of this (10 total) were 2 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot cubes, totaling over 2.5 tons of concrete. You could put several football teams on this deck and it wouldn't budge.There were also several other smaller things that they did for us really meant a lot. At my request they ran an underground drain line for our gutters with a pop emitter. They also ran French drains at my request for two air conditioning drain lines. There was never any hesitation, they just willingly did it and always made everything perfect.The final completed project is a masterpiece, both structurally and artistically. They are without a doubt the top choice for anyone desiring this type of project in the Hampton Roads area. I would use them again in a heartbeat. They started the job three weeks earlier than the original projected start date and finished the project two days ahead of schedule.They are competitively priced to other contractors who do this type of work. My understanding is that Solid Structures also does other types of work such as fencing as a preferred contractor for Home Depot, as well as swimming pools and other various outdoor structures.Being happy with the end product would be an understatement. I think the more appropriate word would be THRILLED. Many thanks to Carlos, Williams, Jose and Luis, as well as everyone else at Solid Structures that were involved in making our home so much nicer. All of you have a lot to be proud of.It’s really nice to see such a talented and professional company like Solid Structures in the Hampton Roads community. They are an exceptionally valuable resource adding a quality to life for all of us that live here.Give them a call. They’re quite something!

Fantastic work on my paver patio. It is exactly what I wanted, even better. The work was done quickly. Fabio is a master at his craft. I am so so very happy. I would use Solid Structures again in a heartbeat!10/26 After almost a year of use, I decided I needed an additional step on the other end of the patio. It was done very nicely and evens out the patio. I had some sinking of the pavers and the repair work was done at no additional charge. Drains were added. I am completely happy with the work done. It was Matt's team this time. I would use Solid Structures again because they stand by their products and their work.

The guys did an AMAZING job on my deck. They were scheduled for a start date October 21st but had an availability to do it one month early and they came and did the job in three days. The workmanship is phenomenal.
