I worked with April for about two years as my property manager. During that time, we were also cultivating a friendship, which unfortunately became an issue when personal and business matters were mixed. An issue came up with a Google review I left due to a technical error—the rating changed slightly and some comments were deleted. This was not intentional and could have been easily fixed if I had been given time. Instead of having a conversation, I received a text later that evening stating that “if I were a friend, I would have communicated any issues.” That message caught me off guard, especially since there was no opportunity to explain or resolve the situation. From that point on, we both agreed that after the lease term ended, we would no longer do business together and the friendship ended that day. After we agreed to no longer work together, communication declined, property management responsibilities were not fulfilled, professionalism was lacking, and I experienced financial loss.As a new landlord, I trusted that I would be in good hands with April as my property manager. Unfortunately, that was not the case. This experience was a learning lesson for me—sometimes you live and you learn. After two years, I am glad that both the business relationship and the friendship have come to an end.
