They were able to skillfully remove the limbs and trunk and were the only company I spoke to that was able to do the job without having to bring in a lift truck and used a tree climber to navigate the high limbs. He was straight forward on our options. He provided several based on what we wanted to spend on the project. His company offered tree removing with no heavy equipment and no disturbance to the property which was exactly what we were looking for this in this project. Thomas had his crew on-site within a week after we made our decision (even with the Thanksgiving holiday). His Crew was amazing, if not for the sounds of chain-saws I would not have even known they were cutting down huge trees with branches extending everywhere. I really cannot describe the stress that we had over this project as the trees were huge and in a precarious spot leaning towards a neighboring community. And basically immediately due to their oversight in missing this tree during earlier inspections in advance of fence replacements. I have used Heart of Wood for tree trimming services in the past and they are flexible, rates are so affordable, and their employees are kind and professional. First, every time I have called Heart of Wood, Tom has answered the phone and bent over backwards to provide an estimate almost immediately, usually within 24 hours. Even if they were not able to trim immediately, I knew how much to budget for the work. In this situation, I was so thankful that they had unexpected availability due to some incoming weather. They were able to take the tree down in an afternoon. Even better, their estimate for the work was on par with the 'deeply discounted' rate the condo association offered for their oversight. I also wanted to add that the men who showed up were professional, constantly moving, and even took into account where they placed their truck so as to avoid dust and debris from the tree grinder landing on cars in the parking lot. I'm very happy that I gave this team a chance. Everything went smoothly, no hard sell at all with great communication from start to finish. Although I initially wanted minimal work done (trimming some large dead branches from a huge oak tree) using an Angie's List deal, after a no-pressure evaluation of my property I decided to do work I initially thought would be cost-prohibitive at this time based on previous quotes. Before any work was done Thomas inspected my property to confirm what I wanted and gave a detailed quote breaking down my options several ways to combine different items for a 'more bang for the buck' if done at once. I had no intention of doing more than original scope, but in the end I had a HUGE branch (actually a 1/3 of a split trunk on a fully grown 100' foot maple) removed which posed some threat to my roof if it came down (yes, it worried me but cost of removing that monster caused me to push it off year after year), all original work plus more branches trimmed for extra light. A nearly identical split maple trunk 20 feet away looked almost the same but I was told that it was, unlike the removed one, no threat and healthy enough to stay. This was a refreshing honest assessment. With competitive quotes from others for comparison from years past this was still done a under budget and trees' cut sections handled properly to insure health of remaining branches or trunks - could barely tell. Everything was done without me home and when I inspected that night it looked as if no-one was ever there - everything cleaned up down to the last leaf. It was a real pleasure dealing with THoW. I am already planning to bring them back next year for more mature tree maintenance even without Angie's List discount and happily recommended to several people. Less

GREAT tree service. Thomas Spencer is honest, pleasant, and very good at his work. His prices are reasonable too, lower than the competition. He cut down a dying, big old silver maple in my back yard, and for a good price also chopped up the extensive roots. I would use him again.... More

The Heart of Wood removed two large limbs from a mature silver maple that was hanging over our house. From start to finish, the entire team was professional, communicative, responsible, and effective, and we couldn't have been happier. At the proposal stage, The Heart of Wood evaluated the tree in its entirety, noting what was necessary to maintain balance and tree health, as well as offering to fill holes in order to prevent rot. They even drew a diagram of the tree, so we were sure what was being removed. The day of removal, the crew arrived on time and did a beautiful job removing the necessary limbs. They cleaned up not only our yard, but also our neighbors' yards, making sure no debris had blown anywhere. Perhaps most telling, when the crew discovered that some baby squirrels were in a nest inside one of the hollow, removed limbs, they used bark to gently place the babies back in their nest, covering them to ensure they were safe.
