My eleven year old son has recently started learning Hip Hop here and loves the classes. He has a couple of other boys in his class and there are several more learning to dance at the school. The school is extremely well managed and run very professionally. The school doesn't take part in the competitive dance Eisteffods ,which suits my son just fine. He took part in the end of the year performance show and the experience has really helped his self confidence. I am looking forward to brushing off my own tap and ballet shoes next year to join in some of the numerous adult classes , after a several years absence from dancing. When my girls showed an interest in dancing, I was recommended NY dance by one of their beautiful teachers! I have never regretted the decision to send my girls there. It's definitely not your typical dance school which is what I love most. NY dance is non-competitive, but still gives dancers the opportunity to progress through exams if your child chooses and participation in the annual musical. The end of year concert is the highlight of the year. The costumes are age appropriate and best of all, they are included in the fees. NY Dance has been the best decision we could have made for our daughter. When she was 5, she begged me to dance but, as an ex-ballet kid myself, I was apprehensive because of the massive time commitment, pressure to be perfect and expectation to be thin I had experienced and I didn’t want that for my child. However, I stumbled across NY Dance on the internet with the “no exams, no eisteddfods, just fun” tag and I was convinced that we should give it a try and I’m so glad we did. My child has blossomed in this environment with the focus upon fun, fitness and inclusion. The yearly concerts are such a celebration of joy with people of all ages, all abilities and all shapes performing together with the vocal support of their loved ones booming from the audience. I especially love seeing some of the older members of the NY family fulfilling their dreams of dancing after they have raised their families and hearing those adult children cheer them on. It really is a place where everyone works together to be the best they can be, and where my child feels as though she has a second family. Beyond the emotional support, it is a great venue to hone one’s fitness and try new performance styles. Recently, my daughter added Musical Theatre to her dance lesson schedule and, it is safe to say, she’s in love with this class. Also, she has been given the opportunity to try achieve her bronze tap medal, but this is her first exam after 7 years of dancing and will be undertaken in a group setting. Natalie, the principal, only included these exams after some of the older students indicated that they, too, would like to be dance teachers. Again, just joy and encouragement with no pressure.
