Brent renovated our house from July-December 2024 and we could not have been more grateful that he was our builder. We first met Brent in late 2023. He was one of several builders in the Reservoir area that we cold-called. Long before any contract was signed Brent spent literally hours speaking with us about our goals for our home. He provided an extraordinarily comprehensive quote which differentiated him from other builders we spoke to. The other builders provided a page or two with maybe 5 or 6 items. Brent provided a completely itemised quote covering absolutely everything from taps to flooring options.A total of 6 months passed between first meeting Brent and signing the contract, but Brent was always patient and polite. Once everything was signed he got to work within a week.In order to achieve our timeline he had to be well organised. Trades were lined-up on a Gantt chart and things went smoothly. Brent vetted trades that he worked with. For example he interviewed multiple tilers, and travelled to see their work in person. He had good relationships with trades, but he absolutely acted as our agent, organising remediation work any time he noticed any substandard work.Brent’s background is carpentry, and his carpentry is absolutely exceptional. The reason we know this is because Brent communicates consistently. Brent held weekly or bi-weekly meetings on-site, at our convenience, sometimes well into nighttime. He sent photos and videos of progress, including walkthroughs (usually quite funny) and detailed explanations of structural work. We saw all the structural work that comprised our re-engineered roof. We saw joinery was done precisely and carefully. The surveyor praised his work effusively. We have complete trust and confidence in the structural integrity of our home.Brent quoted the job realistically and the contracted work hardly varied from his original price. We were so impressed with the quality of his work that we requested many variations throughout the project, and he still managed to finish the job on time. Brent was able to achieve this because he was efficient, clear and direct with trades, and because he worked unbelievably hard. Brent was at our house working Sunday evenings, late nights and Christmas Eve; he was even at our house on Christmas Day.Brent genuinely cared about the job, he was always professional, but the way he would go above and beyond what was stipulated in the contract - it was as if our house was his passion project. The level of finish throughout our house is exceptional in more ways then we could list here. Just two examples: Brent completely rebuilt the subfloors under our bathrooms to achieve perfectly flat thresholds between the wet room tiles and corridor floorboards. He spent over a week planing and packing the house’s hardwood frame to achieve perfectly flat walls. This was not in our contract, he did it because he takes pride in his work. We could reel off dozens of examples like this; aspects of our house we didn’t consider, and he did. And we were difficult customers. My partner and I are very particular. Brent always found a way to achieve a premium finish. Our neighbours have all expressed how impressed they were with his commitment to the work and also how friendly and accomodating he was to them.Building is not easy; our job went very smoothly, but still there were times when it was stressful. We often said to each other “we are so lucky to have a builder we trust.”Brent takes his professional commitments seriously, and he takes pride in working to a high standard. We cannot stress enough how lucky we were to have Brent as our builder and can guarantee you will not regret your decision to hire him for your job.
