I was out running errands and my husband was craving Habibi, so I actually stopped in for the first time today. WOW!! This little restaurant exceeds expectations on every level. It is beautifully decorated inside, really has a "make yourself at home" kinda feel, and the pictures on the mantle of the fireplace tell a beautiful family story. The owner, Brent is incredibly generous and friendly. He asked if I'd been there before, and I explained that I have doordashed in the past, but this was my first time coming in. He said, "Boy are you in for a real treat!" While he cooked our food to order, he filled me up with complimentary hummus and pita. It was INCREDIBLE... Through our chit-chat as he cooked our meals, I felt like I had just stopped by "my Uncle Brent's house" to grab a bite to eat on my lunch break. He even sent me on my way with some bread pudding that I "just had to try!" So incredibly kind! The food itself... 🤯 I'm simply mind blown at how delicious everything is!! It's very clear that Brent is passionate about the food he makes. I had the Chicken Schwarma Wrap with grilled veggies and my husband had the Chicken Shish Tawook with falafel and fries. Do yourself a huge favor come in to Habibi... I love that they doordash for the days I don't have time to come in before work, but the hospitality and atmosphere are sincerely a rare find, and well worth a trip to that side of town. P.S. Definitely don't skip the fries... I'm obsessed. The schwarma wrap is the real star of the show for me, and even though I was pretty full after the hummus and pita, somehow I managed to find room for the rest because it was just too delish to resist. I swear, if everyone in TC just tried this place, it would be PACKED year-round with a line out the door. Can't wait to come back and dine-in on my next day off. Thanks again for such an amazing meal!! Less

I put my order in when I arrived and it took over 30minutes to get it done. After 20min’s I checked to see how my order was and got more attitude followed by shitty food quality and service. I also noticed, they took other phone orders, but yet refused mine. They barely wanted to give me a receipt with the price break down. The rice, chicken and naan bread were hard as a rock along with the gyro which had overly dry gyro meat to go along with the hard pita shell. The naan bread was hard all along the edges and crumbled. Arrived and there were only 4 people total in restaurant and it was a Monday night so I thought my carryout for 3 would be quick. How wrong I was. After ordering at the counter, I leisurely walked across the street and got 2 coffees. Sat in my vehicle enjoying my drink and killed about 15 more minutes. Walked inside to check on my order and was told they were out of rice and now needed to make more so my wait time was going to be even longer. Woman working counter and carryout was nice enough but it was clear it was only her and the cook and they were overworked. She also told me it was always like that. Waited longer in my car. Waited longer inside. It was at least an hour for my "fast service" walk up counter style food that was all vegetarian to be ready. Neighboring business worker told me they'd never been to eat there "because of the owner." You should seriously look that up. I bet, like me, you'll wish you never came here at all. And the food? Meh. Mediocre at best. It was oily and over cooked. And they even put salt on the pita bread. Yuk. No thank you. Never again. Less

I could tell the food wasn't fresh to begin with. They opened at 1130 and I got there at that time and w.e they had at the front line looked old and questionable. The hummus was crusted around the pan it was in. The vegetables and salad looked old. And the FALAFEL... LOL Jesus... It wasn't falafel. Garbage it was. Tastes really awful. It was definitely made on a different day because they had tons of them in a pan and I got there when they had just opened lol the gyro meat that was being cooked looked old. The rice.... It was just plain old white rice that was terrible. The reviews are very misleading or made by bots because .. i didn't even finish my plate. I threw most of it out. I don't want to assume but it didn't look like this place was being run by Middle Eastern people. Let me put things in perspective. It's like having white folks run a Mexican Restaurant. Less

From the moment I stepped in, the owners greeted me with warmth and kindness, making me feel right at home. It was my second visit, and I can confidently say it won't be my last. Let's talk about the food—the chicken quesadilla stole the show with its bursting flavors and perfect blend of spices. Paired with their heavenly housemade garlic sauce, it was an absolute delight for my taste buds. And let's not forget about the falafel, which was out of this world, especially with the generous drizzle of garlic sauce on top. Aside from the amazing food, the atmosphere of the restaurant is equally inviting. I could have JUST been put there or it could possibly no longer be for use in sandwiches...I can't be sure I was only there for about 5 minutes because my order was ready exactly when they said it would be! (...but that's a bad look.) Also I hope the lettuce comes triple washed b/c I saw whole heads come out and get cut up and put on the line without being washed after getting broken down. :/ 2. Hummus and bread were great and again good portion sizes. Extra side of garlic sauce was well worth it...delicious 3. Chicken lemon rice soup was sorta bland. Not bad. Just not great. 4. I am not sure if the folks behind the counter were short staffed, not feeling well, or having a row haha. They're also working in an open kitchen which just SUCKS, and they seemed pretty busy with carry-out orders. ‼️I AM PUTTING THIS AT 5 STARS SO PEOPLE CAN SEE IT‼️ this was honestly the WORST restaurant i've ever been to. me and my family went on vacation to traverse city and we were like "okay let's go to a middle eastern restaurant" because we're from the middle east. after seeing the menu, we had high hopes for the restaurant. we ended up going but oh my god i regret agreeing SO much, it was THAT bad. we got in and were seated. right off the bat i realized there were no middle eastern workers whatsoever. still, after reading the reviews, i believed they were capable of making good food. i'll say that the staff were so arrogant and disrespectful — that's the nicest way i could possibly put it. i, a 15 year old teen, was told by a staff member, "you're gonna eat all of that?" in the meanest tone. like hello? where the hell are your manners? i did try brushing it off because it was whatever and i was trying to enjoy myself. the food was the biggest and worst surprise. EVERYTHING had spice on it. when i say everything, i mean everything. and it's not small amounts either. it's like they dunked the food in loads of spices and cari and waited for it to dry before putting 5 more layers on it. not to mention their home made sauce. that was absolutely disgusting and i can't believe they call it 'food' or 'sauce' so lightly because that's not even the type of food they give prisoners. it was way too spicy and was actually unedible. the whole restaurant was incredibly unsanitary that it was actually insane. once you walk inside, you're instantly hit by the scent of the dense air— and obviously the crazy amounts of spice. they tell you to sit wherever but the tables, chairs, plates, etc were all dirty?? how can you run a business when you don't clean a thing? the whole place is a mess too. the bathrooms and kitchen is disgusting. they don't even use/wear gloves at all, they don't use measurements, and then the staff criticizes you when you don't like their food. absolutely disgusting. everything from start to end was a disaster. my family got such bad side affects too. for instance; my dad threw up and coughed up blood, my mom found blood when she was wiping, my sister almost threw up and had a really bad stomachache, and i kept coughing and had the feeling of vomitting for the rest of the week. me and my family literally went to bed hungry and didn't want to eat for the whole week. it's actually insane how much this restaurant had a negative impact on us. as middle eastern people, we often use the word 'habibi' to describe/talk/refer to a loved one. guess what word we stopped using after this restaurant? bingo! we stopped calling eachother that because of the restaurant. i do not recommend. do not eat here at all. it's terrible. keep your kids safe. The chef came out to let us know that the curry would take longer because he had to make a new batch. When serving, he warned that he would have liked to let it simmer for an hour longer but didn’t want us to wait that long. My husband still ate every single bite of the meat. I sampled his curry broth and it was very well seasoned. The daal and falafel were some of the tastiest I ever had. Food did not come out at the same time but that was just fine by us as it was all warm and fresh and we enjoyed sampling each other’s plates. We are not from the area yet are already talking about what we will try next time we are back. I wouldn’t recommend it if you’re in a hurry. You might want to call ahead and get it made to go if you don’t have the time to wait for freshly made dishes. It was well worth the wait for us, though. Less
Very nice people, but I will just keep driving three hours to Dearborn for my middle eastern food.
I’m very picky about falafel and this wrap was great - light texture, flavorful, very reasonably priced. Friendly service.

This place is a gem! Finally an authentic middle eastern restaurant in TC. The menu is diverse and the flavors are incredible. Authentic but with a certain level of quality that isn't found in most of the places you find in the middle east. It is like a gourmet restaurant without being outrageously priced. The Chef and the staff are extremely friendly and the atmosphere is clean and relaxed. The food was amazing then with Brent always setting my dad and I up with some solid middle eastern food. Brent was always very nice and talkative. He always wanted us to feel happy and be satisfied with everything. That’s everything nice I have to say for Habibi. As of lately, I am disappointed at the point where Habibi is now. He moved buildings to the cherry land mall kind of hidden in a strip of vacant/abandoned businesses. I went about a month ago and the first red flag was that Brent was the only one working there on a Friday night. It wasn’t even that busy and our order took about 45 minutes to be prepared. After the long wait, we took the food home and we’re ultimately disappointed with the quality, portion, and cost of the meal. As you can see, I have mixed feelings with Habibi. I might try it sometime again but I still don’t think it will be soon. Hopefully it was just one bad experience but noticing how it was not busy on a Friday night is a real concern for that was when it used to be busiest at the other location. Less

NOTE: I'm really nervous to write this review, but I feel like it has to be said. I really hope that this was an off night that my family of 4 stopped in because it was sad. I have previous food service experience and have never seen this. Bear with me here because this was wild. I was really excited to try this place because 1. TC has been lacking this type of food for a long time and 2. The photos and reviews looked amazing! But when we got in we were quick to notice there was just one person working that night (cooking, serving, hosting) and things went downhill very quickly. We were one of 3~4 tables in there that evening and waited a good amount of time until our server came to our table and took our drink and dinner orders. But we truly didn't mind that much because we could see he was solo. Once the man took or order, he came back within minutes asking if any of us were "adventurous." I (regrettably) responded, "yes" (kind of thinking that he might have offered us samples of the camel/kangaroo that was on the menu) but he then asked if I would help him get the drinks for our table. I was definitely surprised but obviously said yes - like I said, he was the only one working that night. So I walk over to the counter and once I'm behind the till/hot bar things got bad. This man starts telling me what another table's drink order was and vaguely gestures to the pop machine (that wasn't hooked up) for me to start getting drinks. I immediately asked if a small sink in the corner was a hand washing sink so that I could wash my hands before getting started (thinking this would be a polite and sanitary thing to do if grabbing drinks for people I didn't know) and his response was "yeah you wash your hands there and that's also where you get the water for those that just wanted water." That raised another immediate alarm for me - those in food service/health code know that's a no-no. I then found the ice scooper in the ice bin without a proper spot for it - ice scoops should remain outside any ice containers so that the handle doesn't contaminate the ice. Another alarm. When I went to fill up a few cups of water I found that the (hand washing) sink only had hot water - no cold. So the ice was melted within seconds. Finally looking around I noticed the kitchen was completely trashed. Lots of dirty/empty containers, plates, bowls, utensils were strewn across the hot bar. The icing on the cake was that I also then noticed this man was wearing flip flops. Yes, open toed shoes in a kitchen in January. Definitely not sanitary, safe or up to code. I decided then that we were going to leave. I took the drinks to the other table and came back to let our server know that we were going to head out and find another spot for dinner, politely stating that we were pretty hungry and noticed that he seemed quite busy and backed up. To which he replied "what did you expect, for your dinner to be ready in 5 minutes?" I was SHOCKED. Despite this, I politely responded that we'd come back and try another time and wished him a good night. Again, I've worked in multiple different food establishments and have never experienced anything like this. I'm not sure if this server/cook was the owner or a hired employee but this place needs some serious help - not just staff but also management! Overall, I was mostly disappointed and sad for the place. Like I said, TC needed a great Mediterranean/middle eastern spot and I was so excited to stop by and support. Ugh 😓 Less

My shawarma was I think the best I've ever had, and having just moved from Chicago (where there are dozens of places to get Mediterranean...and I tried most of them) I think that says alot. I only rated the service lower because it was just the one person working there. I had no idea what to expect, so I got there too early. I just think other people could have a problem waiting a long time. To me it was very much worth the wait. It's in the middle of a largely abandoned strip mall, so it's not pretty when you pull up, but there's a ton of free parking. All that being said, I will be back often, and I'm excited to peruse the menu and try other things. I'm really glad that they do butter chicken...that's not unfortunately very common around TC. Less

★★★★★ Wow! I stumbled upon this hidden gem after seeing a viral Facebook post, and I am so glad I did! This small and charming establishment exceeded all my expectations. Despite its limited space, the taste, hospitality, and offerings were truly exceptional. Chef Brent, the culinary mastermind behind the delicious creations, went above and beyond to explain each dish and its unique flavors. He even allowed us to do some taste testing, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The Butter Chicken, Tenders, Arabic Salad, and White Rice that we ordered were absolutely delightful. The flavors were perfectly balanced, the portion sizes were generous, and the unique combinations of ingredients made each bite a true delight. The hospitality provided by the staff was top-notch. They were attentive, friendly, and made us feel right at home. The cozy atmosphere added to the overall charm of the place, and despite it being standing room only, we felt comfortable and well taken care of. I cannot emphasize enough how impressed I was with this hidden gem. The dedication to delivering exceptional flavors and the passion for their craft were evident in every dish we tasted. It's clear that Chef Brent and the team put a lot of love and effort into their creations. I will most definitely be returning to this wonderful establishment. It's a true testament to their talent and hard work. I highly recommend giving this place a try. Trust me, you won't be disappointed! A huge thank you to Chef Brent and the entire team for creating such a memorable dining experience. Keep up the fantastic work and continue to delight your customers with your incredible flavors. First impression (read later comments too!): I had my first (of many) meals from Habibi this Saturday night. It was a long wait as there was only one person behind the counter (who was working very hard!). The food was worth the wait. This place is a treasure! UPDATE June 2022- I still like the food but have been very disappointed with the service and lack of available food several times. For example, several weeks ago I called and asked, “Do you have butter chicken available?” as I wanted several orders of butter chicken for guests. The person on the phone said “yeah, we have a lot of butter chicken.” I said “I’ll be there in five minutes and then I drove the 2 miles from where I live to go to the restaurant. After waiting in line I said “I want some butter chicken.” The worker responded, “oh we’re all out of butter chicken.” No one in front of me had ordered butter chicken. I said “hey, I just called a few minutes before I arrived and I was told he had a lot of butter chicken.” The worker behind the counter replied, “I don’t know why they told you that because we don’t have any butter chicken now. it’ll be a little while, do you want to wait. I asked, “how long?” The reply was about 20 minutes. After 30 minutes of waiting, he said “you know we’re not gonna butter chicken for a long time, you should get something different.” No apology. Apparently that is an ok way to treat a returning customer. UPDATE early 2023 in their new location: Sadly no improvement. Waited forever (1 hour not 15-20 minutes promised) for carry out order. Only 1 worker there total. My order was incorrect. I had to return next day (VERY inconvenient). Also prices and fees charged is very unclear. No receipt given. I am done with Habibi’s sadly. Less

Had a chance to try Habibi while on vacation in Traverse City after reading a ton of positive things. While living in Chicago, I developed a passion for Lebonese cuisine and it's incredible flavors and textures-- Habibi reminded me of many of those restaurants. The chicken shawarma pita was heavily spiced, wrapped in shrak pita loaded with fresh tomatoes, peppers, pickles, hot sauce. It was delightful. The real showstopper, however, was the beef kebab. The giant chunks of beef were just pummeled with aromatic spice and grilled beautifully. The meat was so tender, it was reminiscent of brisket. It sat stop a pile of peppers, onions and pickles. Also, all of this was set atop a shrak pita, so when you finish the beef and veggies, you get to eat a pita just slathered in spices, oil and beef juice...pretty magical. Honestly, probably the best beef kebab I've ever eaten. Too bad I don't live in Traverse City...I'd eat here all the time. Less

Awesome Middle Eastern cuisine, and I mean cuisine! Thank you sir (Dave)! EDIT: ever since this business moved, the food quality unfortunately has gone downhill. The entrees we had were very salty, and the tabouli was days old. For some unknown reason the chef puts weird sauces on Middle Eastern food that do not need them. I understand the cook from the old location has left the business... More

Amazing food, can't wait to go back!!!
We walked by this place earlier in the day and it smelled amazing so we decided to get dinner here. We went thinking we would get the standard lamb/beef gyro and chicken shawarma wrap but because it was 15 minutes before closing, we were limited in our options so we let the chef take liberties in creating a couple of wraps for us. He literally put everything but the kitchen sink in it: hummus, some sort of salad mix, lamb/beef, chicken, coney sauce, grilled veggies, feta, and all the sauces (garlic sauce, tahini sauce, harissa sauce). We did ask him to throw some fries inside the wrap because why not. The wraps ended up being at least a pound each. We took them back to our hotel questioning our dinner choice lol. But let me tell you, IT WAS LIFE CHANGING! It was an explosion of flavors. Hands down our favorite meal in TC. I hope they'll be able to recreate it when we return. Less
Great food and decent prices.
Pretty good! Surprising that Traverse has this place. Definitely pretty authentic too. Would definitely recommend!
For Traverse City, I’d give it 5 stars. It was fresh and delicious. Moving from Detroit 2 weeks ago I realize how spoiled I am for deeply authentic Middle Eastern food. My husband and I both had the chicken schwarma platters which was well seasoned and a nice medley of flavors. We tried hummus, tabbouleh, and salad as our sides. The tabbouleh was our favorite side by far. Next time, we’re asking ... More

I absolutely love Middle Eastern food. I wanted to start off simple with this restaurant and I will be going back. The chicken shwarma seasoning was on point. It went really well with the hummus which I assume was homemade. I would only ask that not so much oil be drizzled on the top. But that's my personal preference. The falafel and hummus were outstanding.
Great food and great service! My son and I tried the lamb gyros and chicken shawarma, both were excellent. I'm excited to try the other offerings.
Its about time someone stabs at med in TC. Im hoping we caught a bad day. Gyro: weak on meat and the bread is way too doughy. I cant empbasize that enough, bread is everything. To the owners, try Mr Kozacks in Grand Haven and make it like that. Mims in Petoskey is better too. And... when ordering humus to go, one piece of flat bread? Ill give it another try to be fair, but we’ll see how lo... More

The food is insanely good! I just ate there, everything is very flavorful and fresh! I highly recommend you give it a try!
A real gem. Authentic Middle Eastern flavors! Very friendly staff. A definite must try.
Having been let down many times with new 'ethnic' food options in TC, I was naturally skeptical. But the food here is awesome and is about as authentic as you would get up here. I'm a believer now.... More

Great service and very reasonably priced. Portion sizes were great, with no skimping on the meat or veggies. Food is wonderful, flavorful without being overpowering, and the meat is perfectly cooked. Will definitely become a regular customer!... More
