We booked a table for early Saturday evening. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived. The service was very poor throughout the evening. They had plenty of waiting staff - at least 5 that I saw. But they were very disorganised, and we were overlooked for most of the evening. We were initially asked if we wanted drinks, but after this we were never asked again for the rest of the meal, and no one at any point asked if we were happy with any of the food. Our drinks and starters were served relatively quickly. I had the calamari but the coating was very crunchy and not very nice. We both had pizza for our mains - I think they must have gone to Italy to get the ingredients. It took aeons to arrive, and only after we managed to flag down a waitress to ask what on earth was going on. She said it was on its way and that she had spoken to the kitchen, but it was very apparent that they had simply forgotten our order, given that people on a table next to us who had arrived long after we did, got their pizza within 10 minutes. By the time we started our pizza, most of the other guests who had been there around the same time as us were on their desserts. There was no apology for the delay. I left over half of my pizza as the base was really chewy, and I was struggling to cut it, as was my partner. It seemed the more it cooled, the harder it was to cut through it. I am not exaggerating when I say that my wrists were aching in the end, which is why I gave up on eating it. I don't expect to get repetitive strain injury when coming out for a meal. We didn't bother with dessert after this. I also noted that an Italian sounding gentleman (I don't know if he is the owner) went from table to table throughout the course of the evening, chatting to guests, and making sure that everyone was happy with their food. Not once did he come over to us, or even look in our direction. They also had the cheek to add a 10% service charge to the meal which was not optional. I will not be returning after experiencing their shambolic and poor service, and the chewy pizza. Less

Just had an etna pizza delivered and well that's the closest Italian pizza I've had other than being there in Rome! The heat from the nduja was like peering yiur head over etna itself a right little kicker! That’s Amore, a Sicilian restaurant just off the High Street in Lindfield, West Sussex, is an absolute gem!The staff are cheerful and welcoming, making you feel at home immediately. The owners/managers are friendly and attentive, and regularly check in to make sure all is well. The interior decor is light and attractive, the conservatory area is very pleasant in the summer.Then the food - spectacular! I tried That’s Amore’s menu one lunchtime, and it was so delicious my friend and I decided that when we were back we’d have lunch there every day! And we did, and it continued to be spectacular.The flavours are fresh and punchy, and the presentation very good indeed. The highlights are too numerous to mention, but do try the starter Sicilian rice ball with tomato sauce that will set your taste buds tingling. If you’re a meat-eater, the fillet steak with red wine reduction and mushrooms was the best steak I’ve had in a very long time; and the accompanying chips were delicious! Their pizzas are very fine too; I particularly enjoyed the capriccio spicy. Portions are generous, so good value for money all round. There is a weekday lunchtime fixed-price menu (advertised on their board outside) as an alternative to the main menu.There’s a separate dessert menu to tempt you if you have room after your main course - which you may not! (And by the way, the staff will always box-up your leftovers for you to take home if you ask). The ice-cream’s gorgeous, and you can buy it to take out as well. We had the coffee and chocolate specials, huge and decadent; pistachio tartufi is very tasty as is the chocolate souffle with mango ice cream.If you’re local to Lindfield, please support this excellent little restaurant. Driving through Lindfield looking for a place to eat I took note of the Italian Flag on the road, noticed the quaint looking Italian restaraunt, found a place to park and popped in with my friend.Instantly I knew I had made a good decision. Immediately we were greated by one of the waiting staff, a larger than life character who politely with humour helped us find a table and organise drinks & food. We went for a red wine and a simple bolognese & gnocchi for our meal and OMG... out of this world. Very simple but bursting with flavour, and very happy with the wine. During our time we said hello and spoke to others of the waiting staff and it was obvious how happy & harmonious this serving team were. We ate here many years ago when it was under different ownership, and it wasn't great then, so we hadn't been back since, but we saw the good reviews online and decided to give it a try. We won't be returning. Most of the food, apart from the pizzas, was disappointing. For instance, I ordered chips with my sea bass dish and they were extremely salty, plus I was handed sachets of tomatao sauce and mayonnaise (never a good sign), and the gnocchi dish was bland and did not feel like it was homemade. We love Italian food, but this did not feel very authentic. The one saving grace was the staff who were all very friendly and attentive. Less

I thought it’s possible that with so much time passing, they may have improved their food. Nope! Worse than 11 years ago!! I had the chicken mushroom truffle dish. The sauce was more water than cream and the chicken was more leather than chicken! The wine was like vinegar! One of the pasta courses was huge, another normal, and the third--the one my teenager ordered--was barely four bites. Not enough food for him! The calamari was undercooked and tough. Food arrived hot, but we waited TWO HOURS to get it when the restaurant is only a five-minute walk from our house. This was mid-week, mind you, not even a busy Friday or Saturday night. We have been to That’s Amore several times since moving down to Lindfield/Haywards Heath a year ago. The food is delicious: authentic Sicilian/Italian cuisine to die for! The pasta dishes and the Pizzas are world class, as are the seafood and meat dishes. We went there again this week for my granddaughter’s 11th birthday - 6 adults and 7 grandkids. Everyone was thrilled with their meal choices and the service was so attentive and friendly. The birthday cake we ordered for the occasion was baked and decorated at the restaurant and was first class. In my business career I entertained clients all around top London and World restaurants. I went to That’s Amore for the first time just over a month ago, and I’ve been back twice since then. Every time I visit, I’m welcomed warmly by the waitress, and they’re always so good with my little one. The food is great—even my chef partner, who is usually very critical, loves it. It’s also my little one’s favorite place to eat. I love that it feels authentically Italian. For a Spaniard like me, it’s great having authentic Mediterranean food. I’ve had two different waitresses, and although I only know the name of one, Simona, both have been fantastic. The prices aren’t cheap, but nothing is cheap nowadays. Whatever you do, don’t order food for delivery on a Friday evening. And if you do, don’t ring up the restaurant to find out what happened with your order, completely pointless. I’ve been too many times to count. This review reflects the same excellent experience which I’ve enjoyed every time I visit. Starting with the food; the staff/chefs are all Italian so I shouldn’t be surprised that the pizza/pasta is on a par with anything I’ve tasted in Italy, Southern France or elsewhere in southern Europe. They are happy to create a personal favourite, which for me, is a bolognaise pizza on a rustic base. The ambiance is always of high energy and the service impeccable. Pricing is fair. We asked in advance for a table in a quiet area and if the music could be played quite low to make things more comfortable for our autistic daughter, and explained to the staff that some of us might be a bit late and need some flexibility in the order that we had some of the food etc. Everything was arranged just as we asked and this was so helpful. Our lovely lady was so patient and non-pressurising, checking in about music volume levels and taking our orders very calmly and without rushing. As newcomers to the area, my family and I decided to give That's Amore Italian restaurant a try for our evening meal. Unfortunately, our experience was somewhat overshadowed by the tail end of a children's birthday party, resulting in a cacophony of excited screams and shouts that didn't quite align with the calm, authentic Italian vibe we had hoped for. Understandably, there's not much the venue can do about such occurrences, but it did affect our overall impression upon arrival. The ambiance within the restaurant itself left something to be desired. The design and décor felt a bit dated and lacked the quintessential Italian charm we had anticipated. Our seating arrangement, positioned near a walkway, led to frequent disruptions as waitstaff inadvertently bumped into our chairs while passing by, which was rather off-putting. On the bright side, the welcome we received was warm, and the menu offered a concise selection of Italian classics. We opted for the Calamari Fritti, which unfortunately arrived a bit soggy and lacking in flavor. The Linguine Mare and Risotto Mediterraneo were deemed "OK," while the Linguine Bolognese stood out as the better option. However, overall, the portion sizes seemed rather small, and the dishes lacked the depth of flavour we had hoped for. Service-wise, we found ourselves having to repeatedly request small items like ice and lemon for our water, which detracted from the dining experience. Additionally, the lack of a meal check until after we had finished was disappointing. The automatic imposition of a 15% service charge on the bill was a practice I personally dislike, as I prefer to determine the gratuity based on the service received. In conclusion, our experience at That's Amore Italian Restaurant can be summed up as "a very good average experience." While there was nothing inherently wrong with the food, the lack of memorable flavors and attentive service left us feeling underwhelmed. Despite the restaurant being a family business facing tough competition, we believe there is room for improvement in terms of both culinary offerings and overall atmosphere. While we may not rule out a return visit entirely, That's Amore didn't quite do enough to leave a lasting impression that would compel us to return eagerly. Less

We fancied having a night out and were ready to pay whatever it cost to have a really good meal. The menu sounded good and the reviews seemed to be sound. What an absolute DISASTER! I ordered a Pina Colada and the Calamari and the second most expensive item on the menu - The Grilled Fillet Steak in a Red Wine reduction. My partner ordered the GF spaghetti with a Carbonara sauce. The Pina Colada was absolutely the very worst of its type I have ever had! This is a classic drink that should be mixed with a white rum and at £9.95 should have been with two measures of rum, pineapple juice and a good measure of coconut cream. What arrived was nothing like the classic drink. Needless to say I was not going to accept it. Back it went! The Calamari was another fiasco. Done correctly it is meant to be fried in a seasoned batter so it loses its sponginess and is crisp and slightly crunchy. It was served with a wedge of lemon and something that was supposed to be a Tartare Sauce. Instead, it was chewy, with a Tempura type batter and a long way away from adequately cooked. So, this got taken away and re-fried. This was marginally better and just about acceptable! The Fillet Steak was supposed to be grilled and served with Porcini Mushrooms, Red Pepper and Onion. I asked for it to be Medium Rare. What arrived was very far from grilled, virtually no charring and it was smothered in a sauce that was tasteless, lacked any semblance of a Red Wine reduction, lacked seasoning and could well have been taken out of a packet of Birds Eye sauce. It was supposed to be served with chips which were “frozen chips”. I know they were. We saw the chef go dig out a pack of them… Oh, we had ordered wine to go with our main courses. This arrived halfway through our main courses. My partner’s Spaghetti Carbonara was insipid and lacking in seasoning and utterly tasteless. Our evening out turned out to be an utter unmitigated disaster and we will be doing our best to alert others to avoid this establishment if they value their time and money! We were not charged for the Pina Colada! We paid our bill and left. It saddens me that a restaurant such as this, in a prime location and with everything to strive for, can be so lacking in passion and soul. If you value your time and your money, and do not enjoy playing Russian Roulette with your “hard earned…”, go somewhere else!!! Less

The 3 of us arrived after 2pm which was slightly late for lunch as they normally close at 3pm. However not a problem for the owner who showed us to our table. We all chose a starter, main, and dessert. I was also offered a main off the Christmas menu which I had spotted but didn't come out until the evening. But still not a problem. The food arrived promptly and was authentic freshly made Italian food, fantastic quality and of a decent size. Obviously we were eating past their closing time, but still not a problem for the owners as one of them rushed off for the School run. Waitresses more interested in getting the tables back fast than customer service to make their money, over customer satisfaction. Staff seem unbothered if they offend. Wont be recommending! Less

I went here with my children and my wife around Halloween, and the food is AMAZING. The service is also very good. It only took about 10 minutes to be served. That's Amore put up great decorations and was very warm and cosy;I am definitely coming back here!Did not let us down!!! Less

What a great Italian Restaurant in the heart of the village of Lindfield. The staff very attentive and knowledgeable of all the dishes. we had a childrens party here making pizzas - 16 of the little monkeys! its not the same as the larger franchises doing pizza making - the chefs come out, the staff get involved - its much more family orientated and friendly and engaging than doing the same thing in those larger franchise restaurants. Rushed. Service was terrible. Wine brought to the table way before the meal and even before the pre dinner cocktails we ordered. Servers constantly tried to clear the table, but then had to wait a long time before we could pay and only then after calling loudly. Two puddings were unavailable, which we mentioned when asked if everything was alright. When we said not really, the owner was clearly amazed and accused us of being rude and started to argue with me about pudding availability. Don't ask if you don't want an answer. We last came to this restaurant over 5 years ago -not as nice as I remembered - felt like a mish mash of a restaurant, odd furniture, loose chair covers, lots of old china and bottles of liquid and cheap junk on window sills along with ice cream display and loads of Halloween decorations. Food was so brilliant! Staff were so friendly, lovely and attentive (especially the manager Simona). Really really liked the atmosphere. My husband is Italian and said the vibe was very accurate and felt as if he was back home in Italy! Arrived just before booked time and seated - the place was nearly empty with just a couple of tables occupied. We were ignored for 15-20 minutes and then caught the waitresses eye and said we wanted to order drinks - she wanted to take the food order as well. We said we needed more time to order the food and just wanted drinks for now - a bit odd and not a great start. The lighting was really bright and the atmosphere felt a little tense - we were seated next to the door and they were busy with takeaways and a deliveroo driver and various staff coming and going banging the door next to us. This felt like more like a casual cafe/takeaway than a restaurant but still no excuse for rudeness and bad service. Once our order was taken and given our drinks, we were completely ignored by the waitress - no asking how our food was or if we wanted more drinks. The pizza cook brought our food and also our bill rather than the waitress who did not even look over at us. He also kindly provided cutlery which was missing for some of us. We had ordered chips and had nearly finished our pizzas when the chips arrived complete with a sachet of ketchup. We wanted more drinks and could see the waitress buzzing around the near empty restaurant but we were studiously ignored. By this point, we had enough and finished our meals and left asap. Of course service is already included in the bill and we didn't challenge this as we were out as a family for what was supposed to be a pleasant birthday meal and honestly couldn't get out of there quick enough. Afterwards we went to the pub next door which was busy and buzzing and had a drink and a laugh to try and lighten the mood of our evening that had nearly been spoilt by the awful experience we just had. We were a perfectly polite mixed-age family group and I simply do not understand why we were treated with what felt like contempt and as an inconvenience. The pizza was very good just a shame about the awful rude service and zero atmosphere. Needless to say, we won't be returning or recommending. Unfortunately, I would not even order takeaway from them after this experience. Less

We had a problem with our order, the carbonara it lacked the parmesan & egg sauce and seasoning and was really bland, so I called the business and they personally brought me a replacement by delivery (not something they generally do) so I was really happy with thisThe new carbonara was seasoned, a nice amount of salt and pepper and the pasta water had been added, it did still lack the cheesy (parmesan-egg sauce) but the second time it was good, I do not recommend the carbonara if you are used to your carbonaras creamy.The pizzas were fantastic, we went with the hotdog pizza and the Carmel pizza, they look stoned baked very rustic, lovely pizzas I cannot fault them.I give 5 stars because That's Amore will go out of their way to help their customers if there has been a genuine mistake, thank you for being so professional and putting things right for us - we will order again.- Mitch Less

Great food and great service, booked last minute and wasn't disappointed. The food was delicious, the only point I would make is that there could be more linguine in the seafood linguine mare, there was plenty of seafood but a little extra linguine would make this dish perfect. The kids menu was great value and a good selection of dishes. My daughter had the pepperoni pizza and said it was delicious and she loved the choice of ice creams for pudding. We dined in That's Amore last night with an Italian friend whose husband was Italian and a chef! The three of us had Linguine Mare, pasta with seafood in a rich wine sauce. My friend asked for it to be not too rich or spicy - it wasn't -and I wanted gf and df. Service by Will was excellent - a great credit to who ever trained him! The food took a little while as they were busy but we weren't in a rush. We all thought it was one of the best suppers we had had there. Absolutely delicious. Highly recommended! Less

Visited last Saturday evening with 4 other friends, 2 of whom rated this restaurant as one of their favourites. On arrival we were shown to our table then ignored for almost 30 mins. The restaurant was compact and busy but the staff did not appear to be aware of who needed serving. A family of 4 arrived 15 mins after us and were seated at the next table which was full of dirty crockery left by the previous diners. Their table was cleared and they were then served their drinks whilst we still sat waiting to order our drinks and receive menus. We found ourselves having to repeatedly ask for our drinks, our food and for water with our meal. Having finished our meal we asked for a dessert menu and again had to wait. By the time the menu came only one of my friends opted for dessert, the rest of us were fed up of waiting for the staff who by this time were busy cleaning and resetting tables. We finally asked for our bill and it was presented within a couple of minutes! Needless to say the 12.5% service charge was removed at our request. It was such a shame as the food really is delicious with a varied menu offering a number of well priced options. The restaurant was very busy and to me either needed more staff or fewer covers for the sitting. Hope the "new management" get it sorted 😊 Less

We arrived at place welcomed by a beautiful smile of a waitress, and the service and food was no different!Calzone fresh home made bread very subtle not chewy very delicious, tomato sauce and fillings were generous.Ricotta pistachio ravioli had a creamy deliciousness with hints of asparagus and spinach. Finally we were able to come here again. We went in february 2022 and we went back yesterday with some friends...you are Amazing! Super fresh fish. We’ve just enjoyed the most beautiful meal! We arrived to a lovely, smiling Christina who was a wonderful host.We’ve eaten Italian food in many places but this is the best Italian food we’ve ever had. Calamari to start - perfect. Then my husband had the seafood linguine and I had king prawn and courgette tagliatelle - absolutely incredible. The flavours were so fresh and beautiful. For dessert we had freshly made cannoli - so creamy and delicious. The lovely chef was so friendly and chatty.We will definitely be back, a new favourite! Less
