1st Choice House Painters of Boise

My project with 1st Choice Painting started off positively. Jeff offered a competitive price, including a holiday discount, and the first day of work went smoothly with Tony and Daniel on site for the full day. However, as the project continued, the experience became more challenging.I realized, and later learned, that Jeff was only sending someone for part of the day, while sending Tony, the lead painter, mostly to other jobs. Communication was minimal unless I initiated it, and although it improved when I pushed for updates, it was not consistent. What should have been a straightforward interior paint job and kitchen restain for a 1,592 sq ft home ended up lasting nine weeks. When I notified Jeff about issues still remaining with the cabinets, after the project was finally completed on March 19th, when Tony finished what he was told to finish, he did not respond or send anyone. I’ve now had to bring in a handyman on my own for the past two weekends to finish and fix things that should have been completed correctly the first time.Jeff did waive the final installment of $1,952 because the project dragged on so long, and i appreciate that gesture. However, it doesn’t undo the stress of living in dust and fumes for weeks (I have a chronic reactive airways disorder), or the feeling that my project was never treated as a priority. To be fair, Jeff does have some really good painters. Tony Callan did great work in the areas he handled, even though he was assigned to other projects most of the time. His newer hire, Jordan, also appears to be experienced based on what I saw. My concerns are not with Tony or Jordan.I truly hope Jeff takes this feedback seriously and improves his project management going forward.Response to 1st Choice Painting (pasting it here since I cannot directly reply for some reason):I appreciate that you acknowledged the issues. Taking responsibility matters. However, several parts of your response don’t reflect what actually happened on my project, and I want to clarify them.I never requested a small crew. What I asked for was someone experienced, as I made it clear from the start that I’m particular about details. At the time my project began, Tony was your only lead painter and, from my experience, the most reliable. Jordan was hired recently. Even if you had wanted to send a larger crew, it wasn’t realistically possible given your staffing. It also appeared multiple projects were being managed at once, and mine was not treated as a priority. The interior color (Alabaster) was chosen before work started on January 19 and never changed. The only adjustment was switching from staining the kitchen cabinets to painting them, weeks into the project, after I was told the stain wasn’t turning out correctly. That wasn’t a color change but a necessary correction, and I wish the issue with the stain had been communicated sooner. The only other work during this time was the bathroom countertop replacement at the end of February, along with plumbing and drywall repairs arranged beforehand. All of that occurred only in the bathrooms. By then, the cabinet doors and drawers were already off‑site at your shop, and none of this would have prevented progress on the interior painting or cabinet work. Even if a day or two were considered interruptions, that still doesn’t explain a nine‑week timeline for a 1,592 sq ft interior paint job and cabinet repaint. My review accurately reflects my experience. While I appreciate the parts of your response where you took responsibility, it’s also important that the additional context is factual. I wish you the best in your future projects.
