In-short, We are very happy with the new skills and lifelong abilities that our son will now forever posses. He will be able to use these tools as a life long to aid in managing his ADHD. We would recommend Neuro feedback to anyone who is looking for a permanent alternative to medication. Our son started Neurofeedback training at age 8 and attended two 60 session treatments over the course of about two years. After the pre-treatment screening he was diagnosed as having severe ADHD. At that time he was showing symptoms of sudden, uncontrollable bursts of anger, rage, hypertension, severe emotional instability, hyper activity and the inability to focus. He had an extremely short and touchy fuse. After being set off, he couldn't calm himself down for hours. His symptoms were very hard to work with because you never knew what was going to set him off or how long he could tolerate things (like homework or changing activities) or how severe the reaction would be. In addition to the emotional side, he was unable to maintain focus on things for even short periods of time which made learning and comprehension very difficult for him. School during the day was almost pointless. He’d not retain, or sometimes even understand, the days lessons due to lack of focus. Nightly school and homework was a huge chore. It had become an emotional and nerve racking challenge for both him and us. We began seeing some minor changes at first in his emotional stability after about 3 months of sessions. Over the course of the next 9 months we saw phenomenal changes in his ability to self regulate his emotions. Eventually, we started seeing some changes to his ability to focus and learn for longer periods of time (from only 5 minutes, now to 7 or 10 minutes) closer to the end of his first 60 sessions. We began to see improvement in his ability to self regulate and the emotional and enraged outbursts progressively became fewer and fewer. They had gone from once or twice a day to once every week or so (AMAZING!). Nightly homework became less of a struggle and started flowing much better because he was able to stay focused longer. We noticed that he was starting to retain a little more and more of the day's school lessons. The second 60 sessions did not show as drastic and as many changes as the first but has shown something we never expected: He now not only “can” but WANTS time daily to just sit and relax, playing quietly by himself. For our “Energizer Bunny” to want time to sit and relax by himself for 30-45 minutes daily is a huge change. In conclusion, we would definitely recommend Neurofeedback training.
