I did not know what to expect my first time fly fishing. Darrel was excellent at giving instruction and helping me visualize the mechanics. The entire experience was not only relaxing, but productive. In a short time I had my first fish! He continued to instruct me through every cast and it made for a great experience. Highly recommend. This was my 5th guided trip from various outfitters and Montana Ttout Hunters was by far the best! Our guide knew the river in and out (in fact he has fished it since he was 5 y/o), was extremely accommodating, safe, fun and importantly… put us on MONSTER trout! I’ll be back for sure.

I had an incredible day on the Missouri River thanks to Darrel! As a complete beginner to fly fishing, I was a bit nervous going in, but he made the whole experience approachable, fun, and incredibly rewarding.From the start, Darrel was patient and clear in explaining the basics—casting, reading the water, setting the hook—all of it. Within a short time, I felt comfortable on the water, and the results speak for themselves: I landed a beautiful 20” brown trout and an 18” rainbow! I never imagined I’d have that kind of success on my first real outing.Beyond just fishing, the guide’s knowledge of the river, the fish, and local ecology added so much depth to the experience. You can tell he genuinely loves what he does and is invested in helping you learn and enjoy every moment.Highly recommend for anyone, especially beginners looking to get into fly fishing the right way. I’ll absolutely be booking again.

Darrel took me through his 3 day "boot camp". I had never used a fly rod and reel and knew nothing about how they worked. He was good at teaching me the right way vs the wrong way to use the equipment and how to not over stress the many fish we caught. We fished the Missouri and he seemed to outwork pretty much every other guide boat I observed leading to lots of success including 2 trophy browns with one measuring 25". I was casting dry flies by day 3. Good guide and a good guy. I highly recommend Darrel and will be booking again.

Had an amazing float with Darrel. He’s a great time on the water and will definitely put you on fish. It was great to learn some of the finer details of dry fly tactics on difficult trout. Will definitely be fishing together again.Caleb Boston
